I can’t remember a season that I was less excited about entering for quite some time. Before the Josh issues, I was already thinking third best team in the division. And with their recent playoff woes and the NFC West be so stacked , the outcome was probably gonna be the same this year. When the Rams got Garrett that’s one superhuman team. As far as Watkins goes, I think we can be pretty sure he is not gonna be a full-time player ever in his career. Some guys are just injury prone, but I’m more worried about the quarterback and the head coach.
It's not even a gamble. It is a pay as you go contract. It is that way because the guaranteed money is so low.
We kept MLF as a coach. I wanted him gone, but they "extended" him. Oh well.
The MLF offense is 1 or 2 in passing EPA (Expected Points Added) since 2022 with Watson. It is in the 20's without Watson.
Watson is #10 in the league since 2022 for YPRR. (Yard per route run). That's up there with Nacua, Jefferson, Hill, Lamb....etc.
If you are set on MLF as a coach, as GB is, then keeping Watson was a must for his offense.

Yea Fish Hound, understand your sentiment. Every team in the NFL has to act like Gamblers for the Health of every player they bring on. A season depends on the health of your team most of the time. We got more time out of him last year than ever before.
I think the UW Madison diagnosis and treatment helped. All of their Top Teer players should be evaluated.

What the masses will miss about the Watson deal are two key things.
#1, it is an extension, so we have him for 5 years.
#2, $31M guaranteed is very low. It is less than half of what Alec Pierce got. GB has only guaranteed dollars outside of the signing bonus for QB's and Parsons. Even Tom didn't get any. I doubt Watson did either.
So, it is a low guarantee contract with midish WR AAV. Easy to pay, easy to cut, easy to renegotiate, easy to trade.

The Green Bay Packers have reportedly made a big-time commitment to one of their most potent big-play threats. They’ve signed wide receiver Christian Watson to a four-year, $110.5 million extension that comes with a $31 million signing bonus, ESPN’s Adam Schefter reported on Thursday.
Well they have Reed/Watson tied up for the next few years.

Vegas- Hope you are right about Burton, we will need some young guys to step up this year and at the least be dependable back-ups. Guys like Monk, Jennings etc. have not shown much the last two years. Looks like Tom should be ready by training camp but a patellar tendon tear is still a significant injury to come back from. Elton Jenkins was never the same after that ACL injury.
