Not trying to start a debate or anything on what the best deer gun is. With WI's opening weekend starting on Saturday, just wondering what everybody will be using.

I will still be using a 20 gauge shooting sabot slugs. Where I hunt, I will never have a shot over about 70-80 yards and haven't got a new gun since rifles were allowed statewide.

Comments about the 270 Weatherby.  My father had a 270 and 300 Weatherby mark V.  About the recoil.  The 300 wby  with a 180 gr slug produced  eye opening recoil.  The 270 wby with 130 gr slug was pleasant with recoil.   Both calibers killed like a lightning bolt.

I have been using a TC Venture in .243 Win. It is a youth model. It is heavy for a youth model too. I am not sure I like it yet and have not shot anything with it yet.  The gun I used to use is a Synthetic Rem. 700 ADL in .270 Win. It seems when I take that gun out I get something. I call it my meat gun.

Dude, do you like that 270 Wby? I have looked at the 257 Wby, it sounds like moderate recoil with excellent long range performance. I hate recoil.

Remington 1187  12 gauge cantilevered scope mount rifled barrel with Federal Sabot slugs. Age and health has me stuck in a ground blind set up on a 1/3 acre food plot with a maximum shot distance of 50 yds. See how the 12 gauge treats the right shoulder I had replaced two years ago. First gun hunt after the replacement was with the Remington 870 Wingmaster 20 gauge I used in high school some 45 years ago. Did manage a doe with that.

Weatherby Mark V Accumark in .270 Weatherby Magnum, shooting 130 grain spire points.  It is a LOT of powder behind a very small bullet.  Muzzle Velocity is 3,400 fps.  Ballistics with +3 at 100 yards delivers 0 at approximately 325 yards.  At 370 yards, it is -3.

Remington 783 in 30/06. Finally put a new scope on it and it's a world of difference compared to what it was scoped with as part of the combo.

Depends on my mood and the weather.  I'm planning to use the Encore  rifle in 7mm08 Saturday morning in my enclosed stand.  If conditions are good for a little 'mooching', I'll load the old Savage 99F in .308.   If it snows, I'll stillhunt the hardwoods along the swamp edge with the Contender pistol chambered for 30-30.... I've got a Henry Lever in 45/70 also, but I'll give her a chance next fall if I draw my bear tag.....  Variety is the spice of life, and firearms!....

Started out at age 12 using a 20 gauge, then upgraded to a used Remington 30.06 pump once we started hunting “up north”. Used that gun til I passed it down to my oldest son. Now I have a Remington bolt action .270.

Ruger American 308 Winchester shooting 165 grain Hornady SSTs.  My absolute favorite load for deer.

During week i may break out the old 20 gauge 870 with the rifled slug barrel if we do any pushes.
