Here is 'the rule' according to FAQ at the dnr site:

I want to use something with wheels as a hunting blind, is this legal? It is illegal to possess a loaded or uncased firearm or bow in a vehicle or to shoot from a vehicle; therefore, it is illegal to use a vehicle as a hunting blind or stand, unless you are a disabled hunter with the appropriate permit. Vehicle means every device in, upon, or by which any person or property is or may be transported or drawn upon a highway or other roadway. However, if you render a blind or stand with wheels incapable of transportation- remove one or more wheels from a hay wagon or put a car without a motor up on blocks, for instance, it would no longer be considered a “vehicle” and could then be used as a blind or stand.

No, you can't leave stands up over night on state land. Yes, you can leave stands up on state land in-between legal hunting hours IF YOU NAME AND CUSTOMER NUMBER ARE ATTACHED.

I have heard that up on blocks is just fine. But you should check and be sure.

If it has wheels it's illegal....

With that said, that doesn't mean you'll get a ticket, it's called discretion and each warden is given that responsibility.

I would call your local warden they all interperate the laws a little differently, as long as it cant "move" after game it should be legal i would think.

Anything with wheels is considered a vehicle, even old farm equipment or whatever that hasnt run in 30 years. I know that sounds silly by the letter of the law. I would be skeptical about hunting on a trailer/blind kind of setup that you just pulled out into a field, but I wouldnt worry at all about sitting on something that has obviously been there for years and is not at all capable of moving anywhere.

fetch-em-up is correct, wheels need to be off. However I have had several wardens tell me they would be pretty leniant on this,

Probably a good idea to ask the warden, either here on LL or your local warden.

I know earlier in the year someone asked about converting an old (non-running) van to a stand.. the warden advised that the wheels should be removed. But that had a motor.

I would think wheels + no motor would be OK, but better to ask.

Actually, I think I'll ask myself.

That doesn't make sense. I always thought that the vehicle thing only meant a motorized vehicle.

I cover this topic in my Hunter Safety classes. If it has wheels, it is considered a vehicle. You would need to make it non-movable by removing all the wheels.

I think they are assuming it would be motorized, like a scissor lift perhaps. In that case, it would be illegal. You can make a trailer stand and hunt out of it, so long is it is detached from a motorized vehicle when hunting. The rules aren't based on wheels, rather they are based on having a motor.

I just looked through the rule book. I can't find anything regarding "wheeled" stands. It does state that on Federal Lands, portable stands must be removed on a daily basis. Maybe "wheeled" means portable????
