Fished Friday and Saturday. Caught a mixed bag of Pike, Catfish, Sheepshead and Largemouth Bass.
Man, a lot of naysayers out there! If you were to gauge if coming to Puckaway was worth it based on a conversation with a casual pleasure boater, you would think the lake is in complete ruin and unusable. We saw people out fishing, tubing and Skiing this weekend. It was good to see people out there toughing it out and enjoying the resource even though it's not in perfect shape at the moment.
Don't get me wrong, its rough out there. The weed situation is sad, but we had a great time being out on the water this weekend. We needed to use the Lotus drive launch to get our boat in. From there, a fairly decent path through the weeds will get you out to clearer water. Further, most North Shore businesses at least have a path through the weeds to their docks. Lack of rain is certainly making the situation tougher.
Do you have to watch your engine cooling and clean up the ports/prop from time to time? Yes, but the lake is far from unusable. Obviously the glory days of world class Pike trolling are in the past until those weeds can be managed. You'll need to innovate and try different tactics from past years, but fish can be caught.
We were not able to navigate to the River, perhaps a path will come together in the coming months.

Got out on Friday late afternoon for a couple of hours .
Picked up a few short fish between the 2 points. Fishing plastics.
Old puck sure isn't looking too good .
The new dam can't do its job and keep any water in the lake if they keep that gate open.
I asked on the discuss tab if anyone has heard the latest on the walleye wagon ?

Not many reports lately On. puckaway for a while we all know why. Just to let you know. There's meeting about the lake June 12th at 6 PM. At mecan town Hall address is w1561 Evergreen Lane Montello. Pulled my boat last week because of the VEGATION was too thick . Put in the kayak and did pick up some gills. What was not easy to paddle though the VEGATION . But it did get me on the lake to fish. Hope you can make the meeting.
Sunny 76°
Water: 69°
Weed Beds
Trolling would pretty much be impossible on Puckaway as the weeds have grown to the surface of the water in 2/3 of the lake and the rest of the lake has quite a bit of floating weeds. Fished it today with a few gills a couple nice crappies, and sheephed.
