Never really got a chance to go out fishing during the ice season. That is why I'm overly eager to try and get out when I have some free time. I was planning on heading out to Beaver just to see what bites, but I have some concerns.
I know that the fishing season is closed for a majority of species, but can I still do catch and release for largemouth and smallmouth bass? I looked under Beaver Lake's DNR page and it says "General Waterbody Restrictions
Catch and release fishing for largemouth and smallmouth bass is open year-round unless otherwise noted," but then I compared it to what is under the general DNR page which states "Species not listed have no open season. For species that are listed, It is illegal to fish for those species during the closed season - this includes catch-and-release fishing." Those contrasting answers are messing with me. My interpretation is that the Beaver Lake DNR page overrides what is mentioned on the general DNR page. So that anglers could target bass in the off-season, on Beaver Lake, as long as it's catch and release only.
Like I said earlier, I don't usually fish this time of year so I'm not too well informed on how the regulations worked. I'd really appreciate some input as to how this works, and to know that I'm doing the right thing and following the proper guidelines.
Finally, If anyone has a recent water temperature or fishing report for Beaver, I'd love to hear that as well.

Out pretty late last night. Good 6-8 inches everywhere I drilled. Had one small walleye and a few crappie, and marked a ton of fish coming off the bottom - very finicky even with a plain jig n minnow. Walleye was off a tikka flash with a minnow head.
