The spring crappie bite on Delavan Lake has been consistently strong over the past few weeks, with exceptional crappie fishing reported in the last couple of days. Anglers have reported an abundance of crappies measuring between 12 to 14 inches being caught. Currently, they are in the depths ranging from 4 to 8 feet of water. We have received numerous reports and photographs from enthusiastic fishermen documenting their successful outings.

Additionally, both largemouth and smallmouth bass fishing has been on fire!
Attached, you will see a few photos captured over the last 48 hours.

BAH, HUMBUG. We died. On at 10, off at 4. Water 60 when we started, 64 when we left.  The wind won. The green slim won. The fish won. Hero got beat up. I should not complain. Someone else would be thrilled with what I got today. Except for one other guy we knew, who was banging gills. I never saw a fish caught by any one else. I think the guys who got out early, got a few. Only because they kept sitting in the same spot for so long. The Warden asked me why I am going there. She knows I would rather fish smaller lakes. I replied, because of the guys I go with. I know I can go and catch 25 crappies real easy. But over 10 inches, not to many. Here, every time out. You have a chance of getting a 13 or 14 inch crappie. Gave up and went to fish gills. Kept 20.  Nothing over 8 1/2. Finely, find a small pod of active crappies. Bad news. The meat in the boat with me that I want to catch them, gets one, a 10. I get 4, including a 13 1/2 slob. I wish it was the  other way around. O WELL.
Best of luck to all. [email protected]

Get out here. They are jumping in the boat. Only 5 other boats out, and they are bass fisher men. On at 1, off at 5:30. Water 61, when we started, 68 when we left. The inlet was loaded with fish when we started. On the way back in, not so much. I think they leave when you get white caps in the inlet. Crazy JOHN drove me crazy today. Yeah were banging fish. But I would like to get of the wind a little. Got 2 anchors down and still a little tacky. I want to get out of the wind a little. I try to tell him, I think we can get more bigger ones if we make a move. No way he says. I am happy, right here. We  got 3  13s 2 over 13 !/2.and bunch of 12s. I am happy catching all these 10 to 11s. We got wallies, gills and crappies in the same spot. Kept 40 crappies and 5 gills. I stopped using minnows and went to plastic with a wax worm, Caught gills, 8s and crappies up to 12 1/2 on plastic. Only one little shower. Hard day on the eyes.
Best of luck to all. [email protected]

Someone did it. They dragged me kicking and screaming to the land of green slime. But at least I had someone to fish with. On at 9:30, off at 4:30. Water 52 at start, 56 when we left. Died the first 2 hours. Then went to fish gills. Caught a hundred, kept 20 from 8 to 9. They were both gills and sun fish. Then went to fish crappies. We kept 20 from 10 to 13. Most of them were 11s. From now till the 15 of May, its game time. Should I be so kind, why not. How I rig. Small bobber, 20 inches from a number 12 treble hook, any color. 8 inches from hook, tiny split shot. I use the large fat heads from Lake side. We also bought the smaller ones. You never know which ones they want. Today it was the bigger ones.Pard stayed with the small ones. I caught 2 to his one, plus mine ran larger then his. Hooking through the dorsal fin, is always the best, at least for me when your bobber  fishing. Best of luck to all. [email protected]

There’s been probably over a hundred of them over by the outlet for over a week. I’m sure they’re feasting on the little Gills that are in there.
