I am going to re-review this lake having been back several times since "01. That first year we spent most of our time fishing the shoreline and weedy coves for bass and pike. Nice bass but no large pike. The next time I decided to try for muskie and spent most of my time fishing the weed edges and rockpiles of the main lake. It took another year for me to catch a legal size muskie . My brother and sister in law had 7 keeper size muskies up to the boat but only landed one. We already have our reservations for next Sept. We have stayed at Alpine Resort on the lake's southeast side. The accomodations are great. Can hardly wait to get back.

Excellent early season lake, best when water temps are below 65 degrees. Panfish are tops, both Bluegills and Crappies, fish the numerous weed edges.

I've been on Van Vliet a handful of times, and it has since become my favorite WI fishing destination. Have pulled out muskie, from 36" to 48" on every trip but one to Van Vliet, and that trip turned out to be largemouth bass heaven (fish the overhangs and fallen timber by the banks). The lake is easy to learn and loaded with fish. I've pulled out some great crappie (13") and walleye there too.

We fished the Presque Isle Chain this fall for walleye and muskie. Van Vliet, which incidentally is 24 feet at it's deepest point and averages 15 ft - not the 13 ft listed, produced many walleye and muskie, with one 47" muskie caught on a sucker in early November. We really enjoyed fishing this chain and hope to make it back next year. We also enjoyed our lodging.

Has lots of fish esp. pike and largemouth bass. Biggest drawback is shallowness of most bays. A few fair walleyes were caught but came hard. We saw evidence of large muskie on several 18"-20"pike tooth marks of large fish that missed his dinner that day.
It is a fairly easy lake to fish is small enough to get around most of the lake in a few hours. Largest fish caught by our party was 28"pike.
Lots of largemouth bass running 1-2lb along many deadfalls along shore.
All in all a pretty fair lake which if hit at just the right time could produce some very good fish.

Van Vliet is a very good muskie lake. Being connected to Presque Isle Lake helps in the size of the muskies that are there I'm sure. There are some very big fish to be had, especially for such a small lake. We have seen fish well over 30 pounds in this lake. Even though the lake is smaller in size, it is definitely a trophy muskie lake.
