This lake is the best lake to fish if you want to escape the crowds. Even on holiday weekends there might only be a handful of boats out there. Probably due to the lake of lake maps. If you are looking for small mouth bass action with the possibility of a trophy... This is the lake for you. If you enjoy fishing a Canadian shield lake for Muskies but don't want to drive to Canada. This lake is for you. If you enjoy big water views, scenic islands and few people.... This lake is for you!

Growing up I rode my bike to this lake daily and limited out an walleyes every day. The walleye fishing has slowed down some in recent years but there are still plenty available for the taking. I have only caught one crappie out of this lake in many years and I was walleye fishing at night, the crappie was over 15" however. Now when I fish the Gile I am usually smallmouth or musky fishing because of the shear numbers of both species. It is near impossible to get skunked on this lake. I highly recommend the bass tournament held by the Saxon Pub in June, it is a blast and it is competitive since there are so many bass between 12-20+ inches on every shoreline and every hole.

my grandfather has a cottage on this lake and has been coming up there every summer all summer long since 1973. i have been coming up her all of my life the fishing is way different from any lake that i have ever been to i know every spot on that lake the best time thought is at midnight for walleyes but you really need to know the lake in order to do this other wise our boat could be on the bottom of the lake. best time for walleyes is opening day i don't remember a year that we wouldn't get our limit in fish. the muski's have been getting harder and harder to get each year but this year got myself a nice 47" fish and 3 years ago i hooked up and got a 31" walleye that i mounted there are very big fish in this lake crappies are amazing in size just have to find where they like to hide. the cribs area great place to get very big perch and big bluegills but the bass are fun same with northerns you cant go to a cost line and not get a bass to hit but this lake is a great lake

This flowage puts Sturgeon Bay to shame. My father and I fished it this past summer, and have never seen this fast of smallmouth action. In less than three hours we caught 45 smallmouths in the 15"-20" range. It is easy fishing. Just look for shallow rock beds, or rocky shoreline. Use plastic or topwater baits. Watch out for the ocassional huge crappie or muskie. Very little pressure, which makes it a nice, relaxing time out on the great waters of Wisconsin.

My grandfather excavated for this flowage in the 1930's and fished it w/ friend, the late Joe Imeny-row-trolled suckers-great stories. Still good for muskie. Joe told me he'd seen 18" crappie there in recent years. Don't navigate at night-too many dead-heads.

Outstanding fishing if you don't mind loosing a skag or two. Nice population of 12" to 14" bass but the lake hazards make it treacherous.
