Partly Sunny 35°
Ice: 9"

I was out on Crane Lake on Sunday with the Family. Northside shorelines were all open about 6 feet out. No snow to reflect the sun so the brown terrain is grabbing all the sunshine and melting ice. We did get on the lake and the ice was 8 - 11" no water, no slush, just very smooth.

It has been a long time since I was out on this body of water fishing. All I  can really say is messy and more  messy water under the snow and not just a little water but serval inches like 6" . Slush and more slush then there is a crust of about
1" thick that won't hold you and you break through into WATER .
Ice thickness is 10-12" with the top few inches chunking away.
so onto Fishing , fished a spot where my dad use to take me when I  was a kid , caught few bass and some pike
but the pike were skinny no girth or weight to them.

Was in that area last weekend (Dec 29 to Jan 1). People were out all over on Rolling Stone and some  on Crane, all on foot only. Didn’t see anyone out on Pickerel, but didn’t look too hard.  Measured 4 to 5in of ice everywhere I walked. Not sure how cold it’s been up there lately, but I needed plank from shore. Then the ice was thicker once I got out about 6ft.

Can anyone post an update on the ice....if any?  Don't plan to fish this specific lake, just curious what is like in the general area.

the rain and wind and warm temperatures the last 24 hours have really put a hit on the ice. It lost 2-3 inches and is soft

I have been out on area lakes today. Ice is "ok- to good for walking". I would walk only. Pickeral and Rolloing Stone are good for kids-action on small pike and ok size gills

Thanks a lot Gillespie. Really appreciate the input.  Going to be walking too. I know to spud my way around on early ice, but just didn’t want to get my kids hopes up if there was no chance at getting out. Safety first always, but looking forward to chasing some flags with the family.

Merry Christmas!

Jumbo, I fished a similar sized lake in that area Saturday the 23rd.  About 6 inches of solid ice with an inch of melt water on the surface at the end of the day. We walked but there were 4 wheelers out there.

Be safe if u venture out!

Merry Christmas.

You and everyone else is looking for an ice report and it isn't gonna gonna happen due to tight lips and most people like myself not wanting to tell someone to fish some lake and it turns it the ice is bad. Most lakes are gonna be spud every step and hope for the the best til after new years.
