Sunny
Water: 39°
Water temp varied 39-42 depending on location and time of day.  Few fish in the deep basins anymore.  I did find this school of good size fish which is the same as what I saw in late Oct - same area and same behavior.  They kept their distance from the boat but didn't move very far so I could keep throwing things at them trying to get a bite.  But they just ignore me.  I put my camera down but couldn't get close enough to see on the camera.

Anyone have an ice report? Heard that there could still be some open water spots?

Here are pics of what I saw on the water today.  All the crappies I saw are in the deep holes, tight to the bottom, spread horizontally at 35-40'.  If the hole was deeper than that, they were still where the bottom was 35-40'.  I caught only one at various locations to verify what they are, but cannot be released so I didn't want to keep many.
In one area, I saw two schools of larger fish suspended about 20-25' down'.  They were stationary (not moving) so I was able anchor with the (Ghost) trolling motor, watch them with Active Target 2, and cast various lures through them.  They didn't react in any way, didn't move away, and didn't turn or follow the lure.  Next I wanted to hover over them and jig with a Gulp minnow and jiggin rap.  But as I moved toward the school, they would also move to maintain a 20' distance from the boat.  When I stopped, they stopped.  Kinda funny, but it allowed me to spent a lot of time with them.  Based on the body shapes I saw on AT2 I am guessing those were smallmouth, but I don't have enough experience seeing bass on it to say for sure.  I always forget to take the underwater camera to clear lakes.

Staying on the lake and hoping to get on some crappies and gills.  Will be fishing another lake in the area but seeing the cabin is on the lake I'd like to try it if the fishing is any good..

New to fishing the area. Was curious if anyone could point me in any direction about fishing for bass (smallmouth and largemouth) and walleyes on long lake. Also looking for info on the lake just to the northwest called chain lake. Feel free to pm me too. Any information would be great. Thanks!

Took this break in the heat to get out on Long today. Been fishing it on and off for 30+ years and today was a good example of how much the lake has changed. We caught about 30 bass, all Largemouth except two Smallmouth even though most of the time we targeted Smallmouth. The Rusty Crayfish infestation seems to be tamped down allowing the weeds to grow again,  and they are thick and healthy. This has tipped the habitat back in favor of Largemouths. Had good action over the weeds with top water baits, and working jigs along the deep weed line. The Smallmouth both were under wood.

Anyone find a spinning rod & reel in a sock along Hwy 40 near Long Lake. Son-in-law lost it on Saturday, May 20th around 10am. Thanks
