what launch on the East side?
I drew a upriver tag this year and was wondering if anyone would think we will be able to drive out by then. If not the only I will be able to go is to have some help with pulling shack out with a 4 wheeler. I am hoping with this cold weather it will make plenty of ice.
MOON PHASE (3%)
Two out of the last 3 years have we have seen substantial rain event In the end of December. this year is no different even carrying over into Jan. (today). This has added turbidity to the system and really clouded things up, along with algae blooms, for spearing.
I would think with the lack of shad in the system that the fish will be deep and looking or lake fly larvae adding to spearing difficulty.
I would imagine the cameras and wide spears will be utilized more than ever.
I haven't bought a tag in years. hoping to draw a poygan tag... I drew one in 2006 speared one I than accumulated 5 points and than the DNR claimed I missed a year...after multiple conversations with them I had to start over missing another year in the process. I have 7 points now and did not draw. I am 36 years old now and at the rate its going im hoping to draw 5 or 6 more in my life! assuming wait periods will be 9-12 years in near future.
always enjoy the excitement and camaraderie come season
I was hoping to try spearing for the first time this year, but it's not looking too good right now. I have a smaller single person shack I can pull with a snowmobile or ATV, but all this warm weather and rain has got to be bad for water clarity.
A buddy of mine speared from a hub style hunting blind last year, and there are plenty of guys that use the hub style fish shacks for spearing pike. Would take some creativity to make it work for sturgeon though.
