Woodford State Park

Woodford State Park is located in Bennington, Vermont and is at the highest altitude of any of the state parks in Vermont. There are plenty of activities for campers to enjoy within the park, from fishing and boating to nature viewing. The park is located on Adams Reservoir, although there are other water sources in the vicinity. Located on a mountain plateau, you'll enjoy the scenic views the area provides.

During the fall, make sure to come here to look at the leaves changing colors while you hike through the birch and spruce forest. The trails in the area are relatively easy for newcomers to embrace, while providing more experience hikers with a beautiful vista to enjoy, watching the changing landscape. You can also embrace the nearby Green Mountain National Forest if you need more hiking experiences.

There are plenty of sites for campers to enjoy at Woodford State Park, as well as four cabins. The park has sites for RV and tent camping, including several lean-to sites. You can bring your boat to the park as well as there is a cartop boat launch that you can utilize to make use of the lake.


Transportation

Driving

Woodford State Park is located in Vermont, near Green Mountain National Forest and surrounding Adams Reservoir. It is located off of State Park Road, and you can easily access the park by driving approximately ten miles to the east from the town of Bennington, driving down Highway 9. Located on a mountain plateau, you'll want to be prepared for the higher elevations on your travels to get there.

Once you have arrived at Woodford State Park, you can check in and find your camping site. The sites are numbered or named, depending on if you are using a lean-to site or one of the tent and RV camping sites. These sites are located on several camping loops, which you'll want to navigate carefully.

Campsites in Woodford State Park

Reservations Camping
Woodford State Park Campground

Woodford State Park Campground offers a variety of camping opportunities. There are four cabins for rent, as well as 76 tent and RV sites, with 20 additional sites as lean-tos. You can bring an RV up to 34 feet long or a camping trailer up to 30 feet long.

The campsites have a dumping station available for sewage. In addition, there are coin-operated showers and flush restroom facilities within the park. The campsites are open between Memorial Day and Columbus Day each year. The campground is open for reservations.

There is a playground available for children, plus don't forget to bring your boat and fishing equipment when you bring your RV to camp at Woodford State Park. Pets are only allowed in certain areas of the park, including the campers' beach and campground areas. They are only allowed in one cabin, the Lady Slipper cabin.

Seasonal Actvities in Woodford State Park

In-Season
Swimming

When you come to Woodford State Park for RV camping, you'll find that you can enjoy some swimming at designated areas within the park. The swimming beach is located at the eastern edge of Adams Reservoir, near the cartop boat launch. This area is close to the park office and provides swimming fun when in-season. The beach is small, but you will still be able to enjoy yourself when you take a break from exploring for the day.

Boating

When you come to Woodford State Park with your rig, don't forget to bring your boat, if you have one. You can launch near the swimming beach. A variety of boats are allowed so that you can enjoy fishing from your fishing boat or kayaking across the water. If you don't bring your boat, don't worry, you can still enjoy the water. Boats are available for rent, from kayaks to paddle boats. You can also rent stand-up paddleboards in the park to enjoy on the water.

Fishing

You'll be able to enjoy fishing when you come to Woodford State Park in your campervan. Brook trout and brown bullhead are found within Adams Reservoir, the water source at the park. This area is a brook trout fishery and gets to a max depth of 15 feet. This park also takes part in the Reel Fun fishing program, which is a program designed to teach inexperienced people how to fish. It also includes available loaner equipment, such as bait and tackle.

Off-Season
Hiking

You'll be able to enjoy the hiking around Woodford State Park in every season. The area features several trails, which are rated easy to moderate, so you won't have to worry about a difficult trek when you stay in the park. The three-mile Woodford Trail offers beautiful waterfront views since it that loops around Adams Reservoir. In addition, you'll find the easy Atwood Trail near the parking lot, which takes you a short way along the shoreline.

Nature Programs

While you are camping at Woodford State Park, you should see what educational and nature programs will be going on during your stay. The park provides guides, also known as interpreters, to teach visitors about different aspects of the park. These activities occur in different areas, such as at the park office, near the entrance to the park. Contact the park before your visit to see what events are on schedule during your camping visit.

Picnicking

You will have the opportunity to enjoy picnicking in an awe-inspiring landscape when you park your RV at Woodford State Park. The park has plenty of areas for you to picnic at when you visit the park. If you're staying overnight your campsite will have a picnic table and fire ring for you to enjoy in the evenings. Sit at a picnic table by Adams Reservoir and enjoy the picturesque view of the water.
