Sharp Bridge Campground

Located within the Adirondack Mountains of New York, Sharp Bridge Campground is a perfect place to camp while enjoying nature. This lovely little park offers both day-use and camping. Although this petite forested campground doesn’t have the facilities of many parks, it is centrally located to many stunning sights. For guests looking for simple camping fare this is a pleasant space without the extra frills found at many parks. Easily located on NY Rt-9, Sharp Bridge Campground is located along the shore of Schroon River. The terrain here is a fairly flat canopy of mixed hardwood and mature pines.

Guests wishing to spend the night at Sharp Bridge Campground will find 40 camp sites to choose from. These flat sites are well spaced out, allowing for some elbow room. However, the sites are by no means secluded. The park offers camp sites accommodating RV’s up to 25-feet in length. There are no electrical or water hookups available here. Generator use is restricted to five hours a day. Guests can run their generators between the hours of 9 am-11 am and 4 pm-7 pm. The park strictly enforces quiet hours from 10 pm to 7 am. Pets are welcome in the park. Guest should note that they will need to be able to prove their pets are up to date on their rabies vaccinations and maintain them on a leash no longer than six feet.

Guests to Sharp Bridge Campground will easily locate the park off NY Rt-9. Note that the park is located close to both NY Rt-9 and I-87. Implications of this are that, while easy to get to, traffic can frequently be heard from the campground.

The park is located seven-miles north of North Hudson along NY Rt-9. Take NY Rt-9 north from North Hudson and make a right onto Adirondack Park Rd after approximately seven miles. Make the turn right after crossing the Shroon River bridge.

Nature lovers looking for a place to relax and enjoy the Adirondack Mountain area will find petite Sharp Bridge Campground appealing. The park is located on the shores of Shroon River and is located near many stunning sites and hiking areas. Though this little park touts few of the accommodations many larger parks have it is lovely and easy to locate. Those looking for a nice place to camp while enjoying this part of New York state will be pleasantly surprised by the simple beauty of this easy to locate park. Offering both day-use and camping, Sharp Bridge Campground offers guests a prime location to enjoy a variety of outdoor activities including hiking, swimming, boating, and fishing.

Guests extending their stay at Sharp Bridge Campground into the evening will find camp sites accommodating RV’s up to 25-feet in length. The park maintains 40 sites under the canopy of a mixed hardwood and pine forest. Sites are largely flat and well-spaced. Guests to the campground will find sites outfitted with fire rings, grills, and picnic tables. The park also maintains a playground area, restrooms, a recycling center, and hot shower facilities.

Seasonal Actvities in Sharp Bridge Campground

In-Season
Hiking

Hikers will want to be sure to pack their hiking boots and stock up on the trail mix when heading out toward Sharp Bridge Campground. Although there is no longer a trail maintained by the park itself, hikers will find ample hiking opportunities in the surrounding Adirondacks. One popular high mountain trail is Rocky Peak Ridge Trail. This out and back trail isn’t recommended for casual hikers. This difficult trail is best attempted between April and November. Those up to the challenge will find stunning views and can pick berries along their way in some seasons.

Boating

Located along the western shore of Schroon River, Sharp Bridge Campground is in the perfect location for a boating adventure. Guests can put in their small craft on the west shore of Schoon River and enjoy paddling through the waters overhung with mature pine and mixed hardwood forest. You'll also find Courtney Pond and Dead Water Pond to be ideal places to canoe. Plus, there's ample opportunity for boating with larger craft in the nearby vicinity.

Schroon-North Hudson Historical Museum

Guests to Sharp Bridge Campground with an interest in history and local culture may want to visit the Schroon-North Hudson Historical Museum in nearby North Hudson. The museum, opened in 1972, is dedicated to preserving the history of education in the area. Guests are invited to participate in the museum supported self-guided driving tours, view the museum virtually, or come in and explore the photographs and artifacts on display. The museum is only open in the height of summer (late June – late August) and is open Tuesday-Saturday 1 pm -4 pm.

Off-Season
Cross-Country Skiing

Those visiting the Sharp Bridge Campground in the winter months will want to take advantage of the exceptional cross-country skiing to be found here when the park is draped in layers of snow and ice. Guests will delight in the eight-mile out and back trip from the Sharp Bridge Campground to nearby Round Pond. This ski trail is moderately difficult, partly due to a large descent on the return trip. With the exception of this one extended descent, the ski trail is easily traversed, with mostly gentle hills.

Hurricane Mountain

Guests to Sharp Bridge Campground interested in exploring without the challenge of hiking the high trails surrounding the park may wish to visit Hurricane mountain. This area offers hikers a moderate alternative to the challenging high trails found in the Adirondacks. The mountains features three trails. The trails are:

South Trail:

This trail leads guest to a rock overlook after guiding them through a series of switchbacks. The overlook is at mile- 2.8 of this seven-mile hike.

North Trail:

This trail stares at Crow Clearing and leads guest up 1600-feet in the space of three-miles.

East Trail:

This trail takes guest o a 1700-foot climb in the course of a three-mile hike. The trail was originally used by fire tower observers and begins with a slow flat hike for the first mile.

Regardless of which trail you choose, you are guaranteed to enjoy the scenic beauty of Hurricane Mountain.

Cascade Mountain

Be sure you pack your hiking boots and grab your water bottle when heading out to Sharp Bridge Campground. Named for the falls located between the two lakes that reside here, nearby Cascade Mountain is one of the easiest of the Adirondack’s high peaks to hike. Guests wishing to hike to the top of the mountain will ascend over 1900-feet in the course of just over two miles. Although,considered easier than most high trails, this hike is not recommended for casual hikers or children. This popular mountain offers stunning views.
