Lake Nelson has many attributes and liabilities. If you go to the lake expect a heavy volume of jet ski's, water ski's, and recreational boats that will all but run you over. Anytime after 9 am these recreational boaters take to the lake and have no concept of courtesy or manners. Almost every time I go here someone runs their jet ski within 10 feet of my boat while I am fishing. Another drawback to the lake is weather. I have been to this lake probably 300 times, and of those I was confronted with a thunderstorm at least half. Additionally, the wind on this lake can and usually is horrid. 5-10 mph winds seem as they are 20-25. With that said, I have never fished lake Nelson without catching bass, and lots of them. Usually fish caught are in the 2-lb range with a 5-lb catch almost every trip. Again, if you can deal with the weather, boaters, and ski'ers, the lake is a good one for largemouth. As posted by someone else, there unfortunately are som pike in the lake, and they love buzz baits, so beware.
