History & Status of the Fishery
Glacier Pond 1 is a 17.3 acre designated stream trout lake located approximately 13 miles northeast of Ely in the Superior National Forest. Yearling rainbow trout are stocked annually in this 27 foot deep lake.
There is a carry down access located on the east side of the lake. The access road is off of CR 18 (Fernberg Road) across from Tofte Lake. The parking area has limited space for about 2 or 3 vehicles without trailers.
Two gill nets were set in 2013 and no fish were sampled. The survey crew observed a loon trying to consume a rainbow trout approximately 14 inches long. Several fish were observed rising on the surface and presumed to be rainbows. Abundant amounts of minnows were observed near shore.
