Bean Lake is characterized as a lake class 8 lake and is located one mile northwest of Silver Bay in the Lake Superior Watershed. The lake lies within a portion of Tettegouche State Park that allows hunting, ATVs, snowmobiles and outboard motors. Public access is a carry-in on the south end of the lake from a snowmobile/ATV trail that originates in Silver Bay. There is a small picnic area with a fire ring and cleared areas to pitch small tents at the access. A second access on the north end of the lake is the portage trail to Bear Lake. The lake is 32 acres, 50% littoral with a maximum depth of 26 feet and a Secchi disk reading of 15 feet in light green water. A lake water sample was collected and analyzed, indicating moderately soft water of low fertility. Boulder and rubble were rated "common" shoreline substrate, with gravel, sand, muck and detritus rated "rare". Vegetation was found growing to a maximum depth of nine feet, 15 species/groups of aquatic vegetation were identified, all rated "rare". One inlet enters the lake on the north end originating in Bear Lake. One outlet exits on the south end near the access.

The catch of Rainbow Trout in 2013 was 5/lift in two gill net sets with a mean weight of 0.71 pounds. Beginning in 2006, yearling Rainbow Trout have been stocked annually. The largest fish sampled in 2013 was 17.5 inches and weighed 2.1 pounds. Two age-2 fish were sampled, while the remainder of the catch was yearlings from this year stocking. Since management changed to annual stocking the net catches have increased and local anglers have expressed satisfaction level has also increased.

The catch of Splake in 2013 was 8/lift with an average weight of 0.72 pounds. Splake fingerlings are stocked in odd numbered years. All fish sampled in 2013 were between 11.1 and 14.2 inches and were age-2. Growth of Splake was slightly faster than average for the Finland Area.

The catch of White Sucker in 2013 was 99.5/lift, well above average for the lake class with an average weight of 0.8 pounds. Past assessments revealed similar results of very high numbers with small average size. The high numbers of White Suckers in Bean Lake likely compete with trout and affect the growth potential for trout in this lake.

Bean Lake gets a high amount of use due to its close proximity to Silver Bay, both summer and winter. Because of a good ATV/snowmobile trail that leads to the lake, many locals ride out to the lake fishing, picnicking or just sightseeing. It is highly regarded for its natural beauty and is a destination for people using the Superior Hiking Trail.
