History & Status of the Fishery
Alger Lake is a 20 acre lake with a maximum depth of six feet, located 12 miles northeast of Isabella just off of Lake County Road #7. The access trail leads to the eastern tip of the lake and is a 125 feet long narrow brushy trail with many boulders located off of Lake County Road #7.
A fish population assessment was conducted on Alger Lake in the summer of 2014. Northern Pike were sampled in Alger Lake in similar low numbers as seen in the previous assessment. The average weight of the seven Northern Pike sampled was 2.4 pounds the largest fish was 25.9 inches (4.3 pounds). Historical records show the lake is capable of producing fish measuring above 30 inches.
Yellow Perch were abundant with the average length of 7.2 inches and the largest fish was 10.2 inches (0.4 pound). Twenty-eight percent of the Yellow Perch sampled measured greater than 8 inches. Adult White sucker and Pumpkinseed Sunfish were sampled in low numbers.
