History & Status of the Fishery

The 2010 brook trout catch was below average for this lake but was within the normal range for lakes in this area. The average size of brook trout was large, since most fish collected were three or four years of age. No stocking in 2009 resulted in no one-year-old fish being present to bring down the overall mean weight. Growth of brook trout had been good - three-year-old fish reached an average length of 13.4 inches at the end of their third year. White sucker were present, and the catch in 2010 was about average for this lake, and for stream trout lakes in this area supporting the species. No other undesirable fish species were found. Beginning in 2010 brook trout will be stocked only in even years. As a result, one and three-year-old fish will be present in odd years, and two and four-year-old fish will be available in even years. Brook trout usually die of natural causes before they reach five years of age.
