History & Status of the Fishery
Lake users can access Pine Lake through the public access on the north end of the lake or from Big Pine Lake. Water clarity is usually good with a light bog stain to the water, though algae blooms are not uncommon. While some natural reproduction of Walleye does occur, spawning habitat is limited. Walleye fingerlings are stocked annually along with occasional fry stockings.
Anglers on Pine Lake can expect moderate fishing pressure. Walleye numbers in 2014 were lower than in all previous assessments. Their abundance is below the lake class norm. Northern Pike abundance remains below typical levels. But, like Pine Lake's Walleyes and Largemouth Bass, pike are of quality size. Sampled Northern Pike, Walleye, and Bass averaged 26.5, 17.6, and 14.8 inches respectively. Both Bluegill and Yellow Perch abundance is typical of the lake type. Bluegill size has been fairly consistent since 1999 but may be an issue for some anglers. Relatively few Bluegills topped 7 inches. Yellow Perch are small, functioning primarily as a forage species. Black Crappie abundance is currently higher than typical for the lake class. Most sampled crappie were less than 8 inches in length.
