Forest County Deer Hunting
Looking for feedback on the 2022 Gun Season! Our group of 11 shot 1 buck opening morning east of Carter. One miss opening day on another buck and then pretty quiet all around after that. My hopes were high after seeing more deer last year, but it was another rough year. -WW
Took a couple mile walk after the fresh snow in the National Forest East of Laona where we used to hunt. Not many deer tracks but a ton of wolf tracks. A couple spots it was just a beaten down trail of wolf tracks down the old logging trail. We shot many deer in the area over the years but I wouldn't even waste my time there now, so glad we have private land now to hunt on.
Had an encouraging season in Forest County. I hunted Friday through Monday (muzzleloading). The deer sightings have been bad for a long time. While we were shut out Friday and Saturday, we tried a new spot the last day of the season and saw 8 deer. Monday I saw 5. Deer were feeding on acorns and beach nuts. Passed a couple small bucks. We filled our tags down south. Very encouraging. Hoping for a normal winter with not a ton of snow.
We lease 200 acres just east of Crandon with 3 hunters using it. We luckily have a very nice population of deer. We took 2 bucks during bow season and 2 during gun. We still have 1 doe tag and buck archery tag that my wife and I are going to try and fill this weekend with bows. I know a lot of people don't see a lot of deer in Forest County, but we have a very nice population. This is our first year hunting this property and consider ourselves very lucky. My wife shot her very first deer last Sunday. I was so happy for her. She can't get enough of deer hunting. She even subscribed to Deer and Deer Hunting magazine.
