Lac Seul
My Dad, son and I have stayed at Gold Pines Camp near Ear Falls in August and the fishing was very good. 1st day of our 1st trip and we were netting every walleye that looked about 17" but by the 2nd day we just lifted them over the side knowing if they fell off someone would get another within 10 minutes. Fabulous fishery and we saw Moose & bears while fishing. I'm guessing some of the normal groups cancelled due to the vaccine requirement which may be why you had so few groups staying there. Glad you had a good trip !!
Jusy got back from Lac Seul, no problems with the border, they even let us take extra booze across with out duty tax. Used crawlers, minnows, and plastics, everything worked! Ate fish like there was no tomorrow! Fishing was so good we set our sites on all 17 1/2" to 17 3/4" take home unders and 24" to 25" overs. Resort had only 4 of 15 cabins full, when we asked why they said, "fishing is slow in August". Holy cow, I can't imagine what good fishing is if this was slow! Can't wait for next year!!!
I just came back from 6 days at Lac Seul Wilderness Resort Just a little south of Ear Falls. Drive to! Scott Ellery is the host and he’s a lifetime Canada resident. He’s ultra knowledgeable about Lac Seul. Nice accommodations and we caught a bunch of fish in our 6 days. He’ll tell you where and how to catch them. The Lindy boys did a show out of there. Can’t say enough.....google the resort.......... take your own boat or rent his!
We had a good week from the 18th through the 23rd of June. We took our houseboat rental up to the Taylor island area. We had 550 on the fish counter in our boat with 2 guys. We caught most of our walleye in the usual bays, points and clay bank areas. If the spot was wind blown the eyes were very aggressive pulling crawler harnesses in 7-12 fow. We also caught eyes jigging and one day casting jerkbaits on windblown flats. Smallies were just starting to think about spawning. Some traditional spots were very good while others held only a few fish. Some held nothing due to high water. We caught our fish on rocky points or around rocky islands and flats. Fish were anywhere from the shoreline out to 8-10 fow. The deeper ones were accidental catches while eye fishing. We used topwater, spinners and spoons. Pike fishing was hot and cold. Some fish were in the weedy bays right in the flooded grass while others were on rocky points. We did well on spoons but did get a few on topwater and while fishing walleye. Big fish were 26.5 inches for walleye. Many fish in the 20-24 inch range. Biggest smallie was around 19 inches. Biggest pike were a 40, a 39 and a 38 inch fish. Although this wasn't our best year for size and numbers, we definitely learned alot with the high water. We had a few days where we couldve stayed on a hot walleye bite and caught a couple hundred fish but we also like casting for pike and smallies so we spent alot of time trying new spots out. Overall it was a great time as usual and we already look forward to next year.
doing the houseboat thing first week of August. We went last year and did great on Walters. 3 guys averaged 100 walters a day jigging mostly off shore reefs. Biggest was 26". I'm guessing average size was about 16-17". I heard the water is crazy high this year. Flooding of boat ramps and cabins. Last year the water was very low, in fact some of the normal routes and short cuts going north were too shallow for the houseboats. Crazy weather. Global warming we need to get used to it. Good luck. let us know how you do.
Day 2 on Lac Suel started off at 0c (32f).brrrr.Cool ride.Fishing started of slow and stayed slow all day.We only managed to catch 48 walleyes.Got a few more bass and no pike.Water was like glass and a easterly wind.Thats what we are blaming it on.Got a couple of good walleyes and with the sun warming up the temps it was all good and Mell and Tom went home happy.
We headed out on Lac Suel today.Part of a 3 day trip.Cedar lake yesterday.Fishing right now is about as good as it gets.Walleyes,Bass,Pike are cooperating.Even got a white fish today.Basically no boats today just saw a couple.OPP check us out today but had to wait a bit as we had 3 fish.funny.they were smiling.Finding the most active fish in around 22 ft.No need to go deep and kill fish.We blew through 12 doz Awesome 3-4" dace minnows on a verticle lindy rig and a quick hook set so they don't get a chance to swallow the bait. You either get them or you don't.Water temps dòne to 60 f.Got a number of pike and bass also.Theve got the feed bag on.
