night lights for fishing in the dark

H;has anyone had any experience with putting lights on there boat for salmon fishing in the dark?i want to put a light on my 23' boat so we can actually see what we are doing in the dark.some poeple say use halogen,some say use LCD.i know the LCD use alot less juice but with all the good deals out there on lights with 55W halogen it's hard to decide.does the halogen suck that much juice that it could be a problem even with a motor running and thus charging as it goes?thanks,D.B

there are tons of LED lights out there.12Volt is the key. Look at a tractor supply, truck light site. I did buy some 12volt rope light for the boat interior.

I dont want to highjack, but do you guys think these leds would be bright enough for carp shooting? Then I wouldn't need a generator. Thanks

x2 for the coastal lights. Not only do LEDs require less battery, they also don't get hot. This is especially important for the underwater lights. I ordered the LED strips and repurposed them on my ice fishing bucket and sled, pretty slick. Came a couple days after I ordered them.

I just bought a set of car fog lights. Angled them to look towards my downriggers/back of the boat. Worked out pretty good. Just hooked them up to a seperate deep cygle battery.
