I always focus on Little Lake Butte des Morts for early action.

in the past I have fished Lake Fork, Reel Foot and Sacramento River Delta - I was thinking of something that was not a destination trip. I have fished Table Rock before and had a buddy that used to make annual trip to Dale Hallow, so yes - there are many options once you break Mason Dixon line.

Pierce Lake (rock Cut State Park Rockford) has some decent largemouth. If you want smallies, go to Apple River Canyon State Park (west of Freeport). If you want some really good fishing, go to Table Rock in Missouri (Branson)or for a great experience hit Dale Hollow east of Nashville, TN.

Just read the regs and you are correct. I don't know why I thought it was open. Damn I need a new early season spot now

Almost positive you can't fish for bass on the Milwaukee before season opener... But I very well could be wrong.

Small mouth bass on the Milwaukee River. There's some hawgs.
