Seems to be a whole lot of arguing about Permanent Blinds on Public WaterWays. So here's a place to hash it out! Put it out there.

catfish bait, I AGREE WITH YOU!!

I want my kids to be able to hunt them very same spots as you do, with out getting hassled by your kids because there family have had a blind on that point for 40 years.

It still aint your property. Its mine as well.

To the 12 guys in the state that erect blinds, take them down, dont yell when you get beat to them, be a gentleman about it and realise you may have done alot of work for nothing, I tip my hats to you. I suspect I may have over stated at 12, make that 6.

A blind is a spot holder and nothing more. Goofball? hahahahaahaha

Permanent blinds on public land is hideous to say the least! In my 40+ years of waterfowl hunting through out the united states and Canada.... My observations are.....The average Wisconsin permanent blind public land hunters are disrespectful. Its the guys who claim the lands as their own, shoot at ducks out of range, call like fools, never recover cripples out of the cattails and just can't train a dog to make blind retrieves. The left over trash, wire and lumber can be found anywhere these guys have been!No matter where you go in this state these guys are everywhere! The most pitiful group of hunters i have ever encountered anywhere.Basically the worst of the worst in the field! We need to lose all of the open water hunting rules in this state and let the serious waterfowlers get away from the insanity of this breed of hunter.

Unfortunately some people ruin it for everyone. I have two permanent blinds that go up and come down every year. I have seen every type of blind built and left to rot. Same people doing it. No registration, name, or number. I have been denied hunting access because some people before me got permission and left a huge mess. It kills it for everyone. Look at the rules on blinds in other states. Our rules are fairly strict, but not that bad. Clean up after yourself. If not, some goofball is going to be able to push in new laws that make it impossible for blinds on state land. I want my kids to be able to hunt the same spots I do. It is nothing but ignorance. Rules don't apply to them.

One thing I do agree with Hailcalls post, if you can get out and locate some these blinds, then do so...get the name, DNR customer id, take pictures, etc.....Actually, the time to do this would be in Feb when there is safe walking ice....It has been known that the DNR does do this in the winter months...I have seen great blinds erected over the past 30 years and the builder uses it one day out of the season, then to leave it, abandoned till the ice settles in...I will say this, don't punish the people who abide by the law....and I do agree, you will have to beat me to it or get up earlier...That is why i bought a boat blind.....

I am by no means against seasonal blinds,I am an advid duck hunter and so are my children , but you must clean up your mess and leave it in the manner you found it so the next person can injoy the outdoors and waterways,my youngest son was target shooting out back with his girlfreand and I asked him if he cleaned up his mess and he said of course, when i took my dog for a walk i found hole'ing bottles and cans and 22 shells laying on the ground in the grass,I cleand up his mess and wrote him a note and will talk with him next time I see him, the reason i bring this up in this discusion is i beleive this is where it starts.

With out a doubt I believe we both are on the same page. We share about 95% of the same sentaments regarding blinds. The part I dont think you are hearing from me is the "holding a spot". Yes, I know what is written in the rules. I know a blind cannot restrict me from using the resource at any given spot. But I also know that a guy who decides to build a blind and get beaten to the spot gets very upset. Some of us have just had enough. Nope, let me reword that, MOST of us. We do not want to fight anymore. So in your world are we just quit the sport or change what is wrong? I am going for the change.

Thanks

PS. this has been going on since the start of the sport, it is nothing new. Today we just have better everything so we really dont need these blinds any longer.

I do understand what your saying. It does suck that the "bad egg" is messing this up for us who clean up after ourselves. We put blinds out every year and take them down after our last hunt of the season. However even if this bill is passed I don't think there will be a huge drop in the complaint department. There is always going to be something someone does not like and wants changed. If this does happen I have no problem using live vegetation to create a blind for myself or others to use. Most of the ones we use are about 60% that as it is. Just a few PVC pipes to hold up for a bit longer and one or two have some netting to brush in.

USMC you are entitled to your opinions. Thats what makes the united states great. As a Marine you surely understand that. I am exercising my right to get the people that do not want blinds ON PUBLIC WATERS AND LANDS, the info to fight them. When it was taken to a vote in the spring hearing in 2006 there was a 7k to 1k difference in getting rid of them.

The number one duck hunting call to the dnr is hunter conflict. Blinds supply, in my mind, many of the arguements.

I am in process of taking pictures of the old blinds in my area right now to supply to my rep. The posts with names that are out there will probably be getting littering tickets as well.

If you have private land that is surrounded by public water it is your right to have a blind. I have no problem with that. But when you can erect a blind on mine and others land to hold the spot, I will and am fighting back.

I have no problem with duck blinds constructed on lake-river-marsh whatever, but i do have a problem when they are not removed after the hunting season on public waters, they are with out a doubt an eye sore,Permanent blinds should be removed at the end of the season or a stiff fine should be handed out, if your blind is on your property, its your right to have it there, no complaint from me,BUT if that blind is surrounded by water ,public water it should have to be removed, I know of allot of mill ponds and lakes,in the back waters, that are just littered with steel pipes sticking out of the water and condemned remnants of old duck blinds, and anybody who duck hunts or fishes has seen the same crap im talking about and its called littering and there should be a fine.Just my two cents worth.

There is no way that the DNR wants them gone. Maybe a few of your buddys who work for the DNR do. However for every one of yours that doesn't want them I can look up one who would not agree with that bill. I hunt with a lot of DNR guys from the appleton area and every one of them has hunted out of one of our permanent blinds at one point or another. A few has helped build and take down some. Not to bash what your beliefs on this subject are because I know you HATE the blinds. Just dont think you should be saying that the DNR has taken a "side" on this issue as a whole.

I do understand how you dont like seeing things like what Brad posted about. I too dont like seeing that stuff.

I encourage everyone who believes permenants be done to contact there representative in madison. I e-mail Kent VanHorn and he said that waterfowl regs are voted on in madison, the DNR cannot just change the rules. I sent a letter to my rep Kevin Peterson and he assured me he was looking in to it. The DNR Wants them gone as well. Contact your rep and tell them to call petersons office and co-author the bill. They will have complete support from the DNR.

Thanks

Took a SHORT boat ride yesterday on Fox. Found the remains of 3 duck blinds rotting along the marsh with no names on them. Didn't have the time to stop and clean up after the people who left their trash behind...
