ok so i am a little new to worm harnesses. i have them all made up and have ran them befor but only using bottom bouncers(trying to get away from these). i would like to try either snap weights or split shot but have no idea where to attach the weights, how far back to run the weights behind boards, and what ounce weights to run. i know this all depends on what FOW i want to run at but was looking to find out if anyone has a basic rule of thumb to follow as far as where to set weight and how far behind board to run them to get a desired depth. i would like to run a simple setup so if one is easier than the other let me know.

The wire v shaped bottom bouncers are still probably the best set up. Try a "slow death" rig. To me it is a lot more fun feeling the strike with a hand held rod, and a lot more precise presentation.

used bullet sinker(1/8 or 1/4 ounce) three feet in front of crawler. 51 feet of line behind boards, over 15 fow and weeds, kept boat speed 1.3 to 1.8 mph and ended up with 5 walleyes, 1 lost, and 1 snapoff in 2 hours trollin. not bad for the first time trying crawler harnesses. kept 4 fish 15,16, 20.5 and 21 that william reeled in.

as far as weights i use 1 oz inline weights from bass pro shops. best weight system for harnesses. now for running them behind the boards, ive found best success with dropping it to the bottom n clipping the board on. if thats not working then ill run them as far as 8 ft behind the boards. speeds a big part of it. 1.0-1.5 is usually the perfect speed depending on the size of ur blades. hopefully this helps you out

I just use bottom bouncers on upwind side of boat....let go to the bottom crank reel 2 times.4 times and 6 times for three poles..whichever on hits fish twice...well.. all are set that way drifting of course

There are too many variables (speed, line, blade type/size, weight). Just take a pad of paper with you and jot down some notes (speed, weight, line out to bottom). In an hour of testing, you'll have all the info you need. It's not brain surgery....once you know where bottom is, you can try anywhere in between.

if you have a trollers bible, there is a 50/50 curve in the front you follow. i believe using a 1oz. inline keel wieght. i believe the ratio is 2 to 1 so for every 2 feet of line let out dives 1 foot down. could be wrong on this as it is 4 in the morning and a little groggy. but the precision trolling books have a 50/50 curve in them follow that. or in this forum search crawler harnesses and you will find more info on this subject.
