Hey, just wanted to know your opinions on a good trolling rod and reel. If you guys have some suggestions tell me the price. I don't want anything to heavy duty just a good moderatly priced rod.

been running the new okuma dead eye series trolling rods this spring, a very affordable cheap rod. but very good craftsmanship and quality. i think fleet is selling the telescopics for 34.99, i bought mine of ebay for 28.99 shipped each. seem to be holding ok for the 3 weeks i have been using them. pullled in over 100 eyes in the last three weeks without a hitch. had 2 rods break on me early spring. a cheap glacier bay(will never buy again.)but for $14 each who cares. and a old old shakespear. the dead eyes seem very durable, nice action on the rod tips, sensitive rod for feeling bottom long lining cranks. all in all very happy with the rods so far. and nice not spending $100-250 a trolling rod.

I also use the Ulgy Stick CAL110070 with Diawa Sealine 27's line counters reels for walleye fishing and spool them with 15lb Berkley Big Game. You can buy a rod and reel for about $125 to $135 each

I use bass gear. 7' medium or medium/heavy rods with bait casters and removable line counters that you can get at Fleet Farm, Bass Pro, Gander Mountain. Cheap easy and effective. I am not stuck on one type of fishing for when I am chasing walleye.

We use the CAL110070 from Shakespeare. It is a 7' medium one piece rod for $29.99. For a reel we use the Okuma Magda Pro Line Counter, MA-20DX or MA-30DX (cant remember which one). These are $49.99 at most stores. We have yet to find any reasons to buy more expensive rod and reels, as this combination has performed great. Maybe if your equipment is getting a lot of use like a guide, then it would make sense to buy better equipment. We use this setup on early Lake Michigan trolling with no issues. Last weekend we caught a 14.5 salmon and they performed well.
