Is this a must have in your fishfinder, I love the way down scan works, but is side scan really all that necessary for walleye?

I've got an HDS 10. Once you go sidescan, you'll never go back. Love the downscan too but seeing those rocks and stumps ans whole trees off to the side is invaluable. Beat my brother, the family walleye king for the 1st time after I learned my unit. Got him 2 yrs. in a row now.

I have the 788ci HD DI Combo and I Wish I would have spent a couple hundred more and purchased one with side scan. Mine is great But I fish Lake Winnbago Allot and a huge chank of the lake is Mud flat that is 17 to 22 feet deep so you have to be withen like forty feet to find the fish if your lucky.

Ok thanks guys what is the cheapest model with switchfire, down scan, and side scan or does anybody have any deals going on? The cheapest model would be a 700 series however I wouldn't recommend that size as it is to small. The minimum I would go is 898c SI. However I've got a 917c and 997c SI in my boat and I wish I would have gone with the 1158c and 1198c SI. Find the biggest unit that fits your budget and then buy the next size up. You won't regret buying the biggest screen possible.

Is this a must have in your fishfinder, I love the way down scan works, but is side scan really all that necessary for walleye? A necessary item? NO! Nothing is necessary. Has Side Imaging enhanced my skill level and actively caught me more fish? Yes, no question about it. Would I buy a SI unit again? Yes.
