Red tailed chubs are a good bet for big walleyes to drift with them. They are mostly sold when they get big like 4-6 and a half inches. Same with leeches and crawlers for the summer but I always have minnows with me.

Dace minnows with the pink stripes. My favorite live bait for walleyes. Hard to find them and when you they are in a river mix and you may only get a couple in every dozen you purchase. Crawlers and leaches though once the water warms are the way to go. Don't rule out minnows altogether. There is always a place in my boat for minnows during the summer.

Depends on where you're fishing. But if you can get your hands on Willowcats, get and use em. Walleyes absolutely HATE those little creatures! More so than even gobies. I honestly believe their only purpose is to anger and catch walleye. Never heard of them being good for anythig else. I/we use them quite a bit, especially on the Mississippi River. A word of caution though. They're expensive if you have to buy them. The price ranges I've seen and paid has been anywhere from $13 - $18 a dozen. So, with that being said, if you really want to use live bait, definitely minnows early in the year, than like was mentioned in an earlier post, switch to crawlers and leeches once the water warms up enough. Hope this helps out a little. Take care and tight lines! Smile

Is there any special way hook a leech for slip bobbers? I might think to hook once in middle so both ends look like it's swimming?

The live bait they want that particular day. Yes, I know this is a smart azz answer, but it's true. I usually use minnows in the spring till water temps reach 55*-60*. Then it's crawlers and leeches till fall.
