Drop shot works great for walleyes. Don't need a jig on the bottom; a regular sinker or a string of split shot clipped to the bottom works as well or better. With a drop shot rig you always know the food is just off the bottom and visible to cruising fish. If one bait is working already try a drop shot rig with that bait as a stealth presentation. A simple leech and hook can be a good choice. This "more is better mentality", AKA "bama" rig, is not always true. Simple is often better.

They had an article about how the Alabama rig would be concieved in Wisconsin. You can use one as long as only three of the lures have hooks. The others must be dummy lures. Was in Wisconsin Outdoor News a few issues back.

So guys if you look at an Alabama rig, often they have 5 to 6 lures of one line would that be considered illegal, not sure I;m understanding the regs then or just might be dense on this topic!

CNT Here's what it says in the regs. It's illegal to fish with more than three hooks, baits, or lures. Two Baits on one line count like two poles used.

So if i drop shot with a jig and twister as my weight and ten inches up a drop shot hook and minnow why does that constitute two rods? With the new Alabama rigs where there are 4 or 5 individual lures why would that not be 4 rods then? Not sure why there is not a problem with the Alabama rig. mb

I also use a jig on the bottom, then I put a streamer or a bucktail up from that.Nothing complicated about it.

I drop shot for walleyes a lot. Generally use a 1/4 ounce jig and twister as my weight, and then a plain hook with a minnow 10" up from the jig. Nice to have 2 different presentations on at once. If they are just hitting the minnow, I'll use a regular drop shot weight instead of the jig.

So far I have not tried it but after watching Dave Mercers Facts Of Fishing this past winter I'm going to be trying it out! Looks productive!
