Can someone who went to the outdoors show explain what Al revealed as his greatest walleye secret in 20 years? I was not able to attend.

My friend just got back from the Packers "atrium" and was impressed with Al's speech. The jigging raps work side to side when drifted in deeper water ( 20 feet and deeper not faster than 1 mph). Storm lures used to make a soft plastic equivalent to jigging raps that would work too I'm sure. He mentioned rapala is coming out with a new line of jigging baits that won't have the hook coming out the nose.

When you know the fish are there, but you can't get them to bite, there's always the guarenteed stand by. Dynamite and a dip net. Works every time. Lips Sealed

On a side note related to fishing the jigging raps, I know of one instance in which they were the ticket. On a trip to LOTW, I was there to musky fish. I did, however, bring every ounce of tackle I had at the time.

2 of our guys in the group were there for other species....walleye, crappie, whatever. The first day they found large schools of crappie in 30 - 35 ft of water. They couldnt get a bite. they came across one guy who was doing....well....shall we say. When they asked what he was using, he let them know that they didnt have it, couldnt get it there....he was right....and so it didnt really matter......he may have been right, but kind of a dick. One of them spotted a jigging rap when he brought up the next fish. When we talked about it that night, I happened to recall having a few. I dug through my stuff and found 4 of them in a couple colors. In the end, we ate crappie the rest of the week. They absolutely knocked the crap out of them. They really did go from catching squat, to filling their time with nice crappies. That bait was the only thing that they could get bit on.

It's been about 8 years now. I'm sure that there are other lures that would work great if they had had them. i'm sure that there are new lures out now that could do better. But that week, they were the ticket.

I agree, I've known people who did business with the Lindners and just have heard through the years that they are class people. They promote what they are paid to promote but no reason to believe the tactics used with them don't work. I aslo think their MO is to promote the lure but not suggest that other styles of the same lure don't work.

Ahhh, Mr. Buck Perry. The Father of structure fishing. No sonar. No GPS. No camera. "The fish are shallow, deep, or somewhere in between." Lol! How true. Buck was a teacher. Spence was/is a teacher. Al was a teacher. He isn't so much anymore. I'll take a teacher any day. What I learn I can enjoy doing for a lifetime and teach to others. Sell me a lure and it can sit in the box forever unless I know how to apply it.

Buck Perry was the author / inventor of the Spoon Plug. And was the first to coin the phrase "Structure." Bill Binklemann wrote a few book's on crawler fishing. And did a walleye study on relation to color and water clarity. I was not knocking Al. Just expected this secret to be more of a situation involving seasonal migration, or how big eye's will school with carp and let them do the dirty work and pick up baitfish behind them, something along those lines. I liken this "new" information to Ralphie in a christmas story. When he got his secret de-coder ring..."A crummy commercial." The Lindner's have done alot for the sport of fishing. Helping it to become the billion dollar [annually> buisness it is. I understand they're in it it to make money too. I'm just getting sick of product placement.

Your right- They also guided allot back then also- Started in Hayward for a while, then moved on to Nisswa Mn and started a guide service association similar to the Hayward Guide service that they were denied membership to because of the fact that they were new to the area and not locals. The Linders actually started as guides in Wisconsin in the Hayward area. I think they saw the wide open promo marketing world and tackled it- literly with the Lindy Rig- what a story.

I am old enough to remmeber the Linder road show when he put on local demonstrations on lakes throughout the Midwest to promote his tackle and techniques. What most people don't know is that Gary Roach slipped quietly into town before hand and patterned the lakes for the Linder Bros. ...... This goes back to the Bill Binkleman spoon plugging days
