Was snowblowing this morning and a serious mob of angry crows flew by about a block away in Oshkosh this morning. Man I want to be out there. Have to work the next three nights. Maybe tuesday afternoon.

The best time to hunt is March, thanks again for the info. The birds are pairing up for mating now so you can have some really good shoots.

I've been hoping to get out but decided to catch a few perch instead. Still have a week or so, when is the last day. Maybe next week if it's still open.

Saw quite a few birds grouped up today in Winnebago and Green Lake county on the way to a coyote spot. 2 packs of dogs answered my calling but were'nt interested in covering the 2 mile difference. Going to try for birds tomorrow and hopefully redeem myself for the past poor performance, I love it easy walking with little or no snow and I guess I'll have to take the sunscreen!

Chomping at the bit to shoot some nuisance birds up at the cabin, they were severely harrassing the turkeys, but the wind was relentless and I sat in front of the wood stove!

You better grab those 7 1/2's. I'd buy them from you and then next year we can shoot them up on grouse and woodcock in michigan! I got you Mr. Pike, I was using those today and I usually take 30-40 yard shots. If they come that close, I'm letting the lead fly. If I was more patient I'd definitely be more successful with those light loads. I just like to fill the sky with lead...just me.

Funny you should mention high brass 6's. Just happens to be what I threw in the back of the truck today from dad's basement. Although if you wish, there is probably 10 boxes of 7-1/2 down there also

Not brave enough to try them just yet, but I may have to as I'm trying to braise some freezer burned moose steaks and I'm not sure how that's going to turn out. Wish someone would of been there with a video cam, they'd of got plenty of laughs as well. At one point I had a bird at 10 yards eye level, pulled the gun up got all tangled in some branches, missed and jammed my gun trying to pump in another shell. That's the most fun you can have missing and conveniently maybe I was intending to miss so I didn't have to carry so many out. I tried 3" lead 2's for them once and couldn't hit anything close, but made a 70 yard shot look easy. I think I'm convinced that I do best with high brass 6's and the old modified choke although I could've used 7 1/2's and cylinder today some were so close, wish you could've been there!

Maybe you need some #9 shot for a more dense pattern. I'm sure you were right on them and they just flew through the pattern. Them super duper extra magnum condor loads you use the shot goes right through them and they don't even feel it unless they are out 80 yards.

Think you should try one of those recipes I sent you. Might make your aim a little better after eating those tasty birds...lol.

The crows really had a laugh today at my expense. I definitely looked and felt like an amateur. Only 4 birds to the hand, could have and should have had my limit. Even with the wind the birds were responding well to the call, missed 8 birds within 30 yards and another half dozen at 40. Tried the old game load trick today and that didn't work. Guess I'm going to have to spill for the good loads for crow even if they are $12 a box.

Going out crow shooting tomorrow. Leaving Oshkosh about 7. Hopefully this weather system had them holding tight and they'll be flying good tomorrow. Buddies went out this weekend and not so much. Birds were'nt very responsive.
