Illinois Public & Wild Pheasant Hunting Locations

Looking for a little help or a push in the right direction.   I am a lifetime resident of Northern Illinois and every year I spend a few days pheasant hunting with my uncle in Iowa. However this year  money is a little tight and neither of us can afford the $135.00 license so we are looking to stay in Illinois.  I have been cruising the ILDNR website and cant seem to find anything that doesnt require a draw/permit etc. 

Does anyone know of an are in Illinois (anywhere) where we can walk in and cruise for birds?  In Iowa there is thousands of acres of public land where you just show up and cruise.

Any help would be great. THANKS! 

Best of Luck. Consider moving to another state although almost all of them will be in the same boat in not too many years as the Fed programs either expire of reworked.
