Pheasants in New Munster?
11/6/11 @ 7:29 PM
I've never hunted pheasants in New Munster. I drove the parking areas today as I didnt have time to hunt. Just trying to get the lay of the land. The lost are all heavily wooded. Are there larger grass and cattail areas away from the lots or is the whole place wooded? I'm not one to chase pheasants through the trees.
Are birds released at all the parking areas or only certain ones? Some of these parking areas have a home 10 yards from the lot and a residential area very close by.
Is it still 'No Pheasant Hunting' after 2 pm? I noticed some other areas had the 2 pm quit time lifted Nov 3rd.
One more question:: Do I need leg bands if Im only shooting Roosters or do you need to get the free bands for roosters or hens?
Thanks guys! Sorry for all the questions but the DNR website is pretty vague.

If you are hunting a hen/rooster area you need to have the leg tags and you need to tag your birds immediately, regardless if its a hen or rooster. Tags are free, you get ten to use for the year.
2 pm closure ended on the 3rd of this month.
I can tell you that there are plenty of corn fields and marshy areas to hunt back there(clover and wheat fields too). They used to do a good job of stocking birds pretty scattered across the property as well.
Unfortunately, I quit buying my bird stamps when they drastically cut the stocking #'s and you were fortunate to see a couple in a day.
The 2pm closure usually did lift into the season like that, but it's been 2yrs for me, so don't quote me. Big brother has eyes all over that land.
Great place to go put some miles on, regardless! Hiked my dog through there enough years to know it all over! Always found em near the creek or ponds back there, unless you're fortunate enough to be there after a recent stocking....corn rows were good.
Hope that helps.
