Training permit

Im sure to get blasted about this question but thought Id ask....Yes, I will check the regs (dont have this at this moment) or call the DNR so Im not looking for this answer.

From what ive read if I want to buy birds and take them to an official training area I need a training permit (believe it is about 25 bucks...if my memory is right). Does everyone hunting these birds need a training permit? If not, what happens if that person is outa state?

I have a friend who comes up for Thanksgiving. We dont want to pay 20 bucks a bird at a game farm with many of those farms around me requiring a membership for additional money. I also dont want him to buy an out of state license because the stocking of birds is so hit and miss (around deer season). I know a guy selling pheasant for 10 and quail for 4. Other than knowing where birds are it would be no different than going to game farm.

Thanks for any help and Ill save some a breathe. Yes, I will check the regs when the time comes no matter the answer I get here

Dog training at Bong is year-round, including in season, but you cannot train until after 3pm during pheasant season. To my understanding, anybody who is shooting at birds needs to have the permit, but I could be wrong about that. The permit is $25, and it is for three years.

As far as I know all you need to do is get the training permit and the last time I puchased one it was $25 not everyone needs a permit and when you get the permit you will get the leg tags that need to be put on the birds before you plant them for the training exersise. As far as i know anyone can go with you to train / shoot the birds. I have never went to an official training grounds such as Bong Rec, I have always had some private land to do it on. And I believe know with season in progress the training grounds at bong are not open to training but I could be wrong. I don't know for sure if everyone in or out of state needs a license if you do it on some private land but i'm not for sure. If you go to a phesant farm I know you don't need a license to shoot there so I'm thinking if you have purchased the birds and obtain a permit I believe anyone is good to go with or without a license. I would double check with a call to the DNR.

I believe you are correct. When we train with our group (NAVHDA), many of the folks are from out of state and don't beleive (but not confirmed) they have a license.
