Sorry to say, but it is a joke what the state charges for Non- Resident Turkey license. They are always looking for ways to increase revenue well here is one! WI is ~$68.00, compared to IL ($180), IN ($206), IA ($225), MO ($190), NE ($111). The only ones close are MI ($73) & MN ($80).

Currently our population is higher than those listed and our season is more liberal.

X3 on that for me. I am tired of this state just giving away resources to people from out of state while we get hosed. You should see what Montana charges residents vs. non residents on all their licenses. Its good for a laugh or 2. For some reason I keep applying for Mt goat there but what the heck you only live once.

I agree with the reciprocating license fee for out of state hunters. Charge them the same as their state charges someone to hunt there.

Doc,

I hear you about the out of state western hunts. Have been going for 12 years to Wyoming and when I started a special tag was $220 and now the same tag is $545. All that is going to do is make me apply for a preference point every other year and only go every other year from now on. Makes me sad to have to do it that way but by time you have all expenses figured in it is well over $1000 and it is still just a deer. Talking to the wardens out there they realize that people will continue to pay as prices go up so why not raise them. It is the average hunter who will no longer be able to afford the trips, the people with money who just like to kill will still be able to afford it. I also think the large number of guides that are out there are all for higher prices because if someone is willing to pay $1000 for a license, they will probably hire a guide also which is big money for them!

You guys are too nice, I say if you are from Illinois you should be denied a license of any sort. Evil Grin Evil Grin Evil Grin I keep seeing all these stupid Illinois commercials claiming it is "mile after magnificent mile"...oh really? Then why does 80% of your population come to Wisconsin seeking fun? Hehehe.

On a serious note, I have always wondered why it is so cheap to buy out of state licenses in this state. Makes no sense to me at all. When I still worked at Cabela's we sold a very high volume of non-resident licenses, it was kind of sickening.

Before we could buy $10 tags, a week wasn't enough for me. So my dad and I ventured to MO one spring for a long weekend. I believe we paid $150 (for "two tags".) The price of the tag didn't matter, we just wanted more turkey time.

Word is out on WI turkeys, you see more and more Turkey shows on TV with WI as their setting. We have a pretty late season and with all the extra tags available the last couple of years for 5 & 6th season people from out-of-state are cashing in. I wouldn't think twice to pay $68 for an out-of-state license to extend my season.

Other western states don't care if their licenses are too high that they hurt businesses, so why should wisconsin? I have to believe that if you want to make money from hunters, keep the locals and in state hunters happy first. They will spend more money in the local economy than out of staters ever will. Therefore raise the price by double or triple, keep some of the out of staters away and get more people in Wisconsin hunting again and watch the money pour in!

We should have a recipricating liscence fee system. If it costs $180 for someone from WIsconsin to turkey hunt in Illinois then it should cost them $180 to hunt them here.

And they need to raise out of state fishing as well.

I agree that all NON-Resident licenses should be raised but you need to make sure it is not too high or the out of state hunters will not come and then we will also lose any other revenue that they may spend in our state. I believe that is the reason our prices have not gone up for a while. They have to be priced reasonably to keep the hunters and fisherman coming and bringing in the cash flow to all the businesses that count on them.

I've been bringing this up at every spring meeting for the last 5 years. Its time for a increase and not just for turkeys.
