Turkey Hunting
Gobbler Guillotine question
4/2/12 @ 9:59 AM
This is my first year turkey hunting and I am going at it with a bow. I got 125 grain gobbler guillotines from a friend and have been target shooting with the same grain field points to sight in my bow with. Is there anything else I would need to watch for when shooting these bad boys? Will the setup I have on my bow (hha adjustable sight, stabilizer etc...about 55 lbs draw weight) for deer hunting work for bagging a turkey?

Your bow set up is perfect for turkey if you are confident with it for deer!I always use the same broadhead that i use for deer hunting with many clean kills and no fly offs.....If you choose to use a different broadhead of guillotine type...PRACTICE, PRACTICE,PRACTICE..Find your comfort zone while sitting/hunting out of your ground blind. i will practice out to 50 yards although my longest kill shot has been 35 yards.A range finder is very handy when the moment comes. Also if your blind has a black out inner liner like a Double Bull always wear black as well as a black face mask. This will help conceal your movements and you will virtually disappear. Set your decoy at a measured distance 20 yards this will help with a range estimate for the kill also.Consider a bow hanger or stand for your bow.
You should practice with the actaul head to see how they fly and what kind of range you have with it. As was mentioned you may need a longer shaft. You may also need a heavier arrow to stablize the large diameter head. You will only knwo this by shooting it.
I am shooting bullheads for the first time this year and it took a few sets of blades to get it right out of my bow.
Good Luck.
