heading down in two weeks to fish the coulee region. never done it before but ive wanted to do it all my life. i fished the minnesota side when i lived there one time and it was the best trout fishing of my life. looking for anyone to advice me on the best area to stay at as far as a base camp. not looking for techniques or anyones honeyhole, dont even need a name of a creek, just a town with a hotel that puts me in range of good fishing...if not too much trouble, could anyone give me advice on where to find brookies down there too. pm is on.. thanks.

thanks for the advice that sounds like crap deal if you ask me. i wouldnt be involved with much of that either. i did hear there is good fishing over that way though. so many regs and rules and people it sounds like. i've got a few maps a guy sent me to try out. i'm looking to camp on shore somewhere close to a good stream and try to stay away from people. i cant count how many people try to get me involved as a memeber to so many different sportsman's group only to find out that alot of them arent really sportsman's at all. there greedy selfish, well you know what i mean it sounds like. i like to look into things alot before getting involved. but if there doing things that alot of people dont know about thats wrong to. members should be involved with alot of what happens or at least have a voice.
I had a house fire Dec 9th. I stayed in the clubhouse till I was kicked out of clubhouse on Jan 1st.I would not apply for welfare so the club would recieve $1000 heat assistance. The clubhouse is kept at 50 degrees all winter, I turned it up to 60. I posted this fact on the clubs FB account that I started and ran. For that, they kicked be out of the club.Invited only a handful of members/puppets to a meeting to kick me out. Not the 450 members.Had a convicted FELON run the meeting. Maybe you want to support an organization like that? .......
Did I mention I never collected a penny last year for anything including the 1000 times I cleaned the bathrooms.
The cabins are full of mold-be careful.
Back to fishing:
West Fork is full of some decent Browns and Brookies.
Fish are spooky because of the pressure.
Early is best, both time a day and year.
Bring your walleye jigs and tails in moter oil
Raps,PM and Mepps work real good along with standard fly gear.
Think Stealth. You spook them, you are done.
Stay away from West fork club, not good, just want your $$$.
Former officer.
Westby Rod and Gun owns and operates a campground in upper Timber Coulee, camp there. They also planted over 10,000 wild stain Trout last year with more this year.
Support the folks that give a crap about you and our sport.
Well Tuna if the cat 5 reg does what it was intended to do - create and protect larger trout, then I'm all for it. However to the contrary I see the opposite happening. Tons of small stunted trout in these catch and release artificial only areas.
Anyway I should not knock ALL of the special reg water because some I have yet to fish including West Fork Kickapoo and Castle Rock. Funny though, special regulations are like a magnet to trout anglers. People assume the fishing is going to be better so everybody goes there which honestly is perfectly fine by me.
Oh BTW I advise getting the Humprey and Shogren book. Buy it or you can find it at most libraries. Nice kiss and tell book for many streams in WI and MN.
I like Tainter and Mill Creek a lot. They are the bee's knees. We stay at this place called The Farmer's Inn just south of Viroqua. Little cabin on a family dairy farm. Jeannie and Gary are super nice hosts. ALL of the cricks in and around Viroqua and all of southwestern WI is just plain fantastic. I just shy away from the catch and release areas because I think the reg is a joke.
NEWeyeslayer ,
Heres a link to Vernon county.Sidie Hollow has showers at the camp site and is a great place to stay. http://www.co.vernon.wi.gov/LWCD/parks.htm

Both puts you in reach of many great streams. I stay at Esofea-Rentz Memorial County Park. Great place.
Its all personal choice on the accommodations you want . Very crowded on the Bad Axe this weekend. If you can go mid week its a bonus. Any more questions give me a shout on PM.
south of LaCrosse Justin Tails Resort puts you two miles from a wold class trout stream, 10 minutes from the Kickapoo, and coon creek. Rodgers Cottages is just outside coon valley and right on coon creek, while being 10 minutes from the kickapoo,, Espophia (venon County Park) will put you right on the Bad Axe, which is heavily stocked with brook trout, and any lodging in Westby will put you 10 minutes from dozens of trout streams.
