I used to love hunting and eating squirell but I haven't hunted them in years and my father is no longer around to provide me with how he made them. Now my daughter wants to go squirell hunting so I need a SIMPLE way to cook them because I'm a terrible cook! Any suggestions?

Clean them, make sure to remove the glands from the front leg pits. Cut into pieces, Put in slow cooker with sliced onions, chopped garlic or powder, 1 can cream of chicken, 1 can cream of mushroom, bag of mixed veg., black pepper to taste. Cook on low setting for 7hrs. or till tender depending on the age of the squirrels. Enough sauce for 3 to 5 of them. Enjoy.

If you want easy I'll give you easy. Toss some sliced onion in the bottom of a small roasting pan, add one cup brown rice and two cups water. Add two or three cleaned squirrel carcass, cover pan and bake for 45 minutes at 350 degrees. Let the pan sit for another 15 minutes then eat.

Used to eat a lot of squirrell in college. A little advice to make them taste better -- remove the glands that are located in the arm and leg pits. They are easy to see. You just extend the arms and legs so you expose the 'pits', like your arm pit. The glands will look like a booger stuck in there. Cut it out.

We would cut the meat in little pieces, flour/salt/pepper, then brown them. Add the meat to any stew-like recipe. Cook until the veggies are done. SIMPLE.

Several tree rats, one envelope beefy onion soup, a little water and garlic. Cook till meat falls off bone. Remove bones and thicken with a little corn starch and you have hot beef sandwiches.

I like to put em in a slow cooker for a few hours with some golden cream of mushroom soup, patatoes and carrots....it's done when the meat falls off the bone real good! Tounge Out

Add to a pot tony chachere's jambalaya mix. If you have a lot of squirrel, use two boxes of mix. I also add red onion and green pepper. You can also add schrimp and make Cajun Surf 'N Turf.

Pan fry to put a little color on the legs, add to crock pot with 1 med onion chopped,2 stalks celery chopped,2 cloves garlic chopped,1 12 oz can stewed or diced tomatoes, drain juice, beef stock to cover. Cover crock and simmer on low for 4 to 6 hours or until tender. serve over rice, mashed potatoes, or noodles enjoy... Or you can try the other recipe on this thread...
