Pike Fishing
line for spinning reel
1/10/12 @ 10:20 AM
I'm going to rig a medium weight spinning rod / reel combo to cast lures for pike during the upcoming open water season. At this point I am planning on using a no-stretch Sectra braid in the 20 to 30 pound test range.
I would be interested in your line recommendations and / or experiences.

For smaller pike lures i have a 7' rod, Medium Heavy fast action. I use 20 or 30lb power pro, and i use a 20lb fluoro leader or a black steel leader with a lenght of 18". NEVER lost a fish due to line breakage. If you go with powerpro (or any braid) you gain the advantage of no stretch and the most strength of any line out there short of steel. Ive even caught some big bass on this setup. Some might say its over kill but when i can pull fish out quicker and not put extra stress on the fish it makes all the difference for a good release.
For big pike and small muskie lures i have a 7'6" Shimano compre and a Abu garcia C3 reel, 50lb power pro and 30lb fluoro or steel leader. Same setup just alittle more rugged and yet again ive never lost a fish due to line failure.
