If you want to fish the River north of Wausau you can put in at Schofield park down by marathon electric and head up river. Or Lake Alexander is just a wide part of the river up by Merrill.

I've never fished that area yet, but what I can tell you is that I have had good luck with using google earth and mapping out spots based on how they look on the map. You can tell alot about spots from google earth if you pick out certian points, bays, rocks etc. to fish ahead of time. Pay attention to water levels as well.

If any, what are some safer sections north of wausau to drop a small boat in? any general areas would be great! I have done fishing in the river north of boom lake in rhinelander, but I have heard great things about the whole river.

I consider the river class A musky fishing. All stretches hold trophy 50"+ fish. Many stretches are overlooked.

The stretch north of Merrill is as good as any muskie water in the state.

I fish the wisconsin from dubay to biron and have fairly good sucess with muskies. Havent tried any other stretches of river, but can't imagine there not being any muskies there.
