Mille Lacs or Leech???
3/25/13 @ 7:37 AM
Looking for advice:
I'm planning a family vacation to either Mille Lacs or Leech for late June or any time in July, and I'm wondering which lake you would consider to be better for large walleyes.
I've never fished either lake so any adivice is great.
Is one lake "less busy" than the other?
Also, we are looking for a resort with a pool (I have little kids) so that I can be out in the boat longer
PM me if you would like!

Leech lake is definitely a great bite, and the Net Test numbers are looking superior for this year. Chase On the Lake Hotel / Resort is located IN Walker MN on the shore of Walker bay. Plenty of dock space for the boat, POOL, full service spa, restaurant and bar, bowling alley, and very close to Reeds Sporting goods (Across the parking lot) and other great shopping locations.

Vermilion is a really nice lake, senic and lots of walleye, SM bass , skis, pike & crappie. Mille Lacs is having problems and rules will be very restrictive this year at least. Leech has always been a good Walleye Lake for eaters. There Are biggies but it's a numbers game.
I've had great fishing trips to both, but I prefer Leech Lake for its walleye fishing. Mille Lacs is very big and you can spend 90% of your time trying to find the right spot. Here's some more info from the Leech Lake site if you're interested.

leech is an awesome lake to fish, was there 7 days last august and had a blast. got limits of perch in the morning and limits of eyes at dusk some days and also trolling at night. the perch are huge in leech. lindy rigging was also a good tactic for getting eater eyes. mainly fished in walker bay. perch in the sand grass, and eyes on the 20-25ft. humps. stayed at bailys resort, really nice place no pool but they have a nice beach with a water trampline and kids toys for the little ones. went with all adults but would take kids there as the resort owner has younger kids there and it was a family friendly resort.
Walleyeslayer,
stay away from Mille Lacs. It is a dying lake. Indian netting has ruined the lake. Do some Goggle searches for discussion this spring regarding severely reduced slot limits for sports anglers on Mille Lacs. Or use the included link to educate yourself.
You will not be able to catch and keep ANY walleyes that could be eaten on Mille Lacs. The slot limit is 18-20 inches. These fish do not exist. You would be fishing for ghosts. Go to Vermillion or Kabetogama.
