One thing to note: Don't just look at the high temperature and think the ice is shot.
I've noticed that is common among many people who see a high of 40, and think the ice is going to be unsafe. Sometimes, that same day might have a low of 19 and it's actually below 32 degrees 18 out of 24 possible hours.
Or, a 40 degree cloudy day...doesn't seem to have that bad of an effect.
LMAO @ slushy! Battle Royale at the Ripon millpond??
To me, just sounds like flasher envy. Try doing something like going up to the bay for whitefish, or fishing a big body of water for roaming schools of bass and eyes. Do that without a flasher and see how many times you come home with your tail between your legs before you start to understand the value of electronics.
Here's one that I don't think is true and I heard it most years starting around Mid February.
The pike are getting ready to spawn.
I guess everything I've read would suggest that isn't the case. Pike are just fat right now, but not about to spawn. That comes in late March/early April. I could be wrong...but it just doesn't seem likely based on the research.
