catchin i'm with you,i was wondering how that would work when the temps get up in the mid-80's the flies are bad enough around the water.i'm just going to use smsll pieces of gulp soaked in gulp juice made for game fish,it works on other meat eaters and doesn't smell that bad.
I tried these and the tuna stink in the boat was too much for everyone...with limitd rsults IMO...also found them too speed touchy..they r two piece design that hinges open and band holds them back together after loading... others on here prob. more versed in useage than me...I gave up on them...
i also want to try these baits.i have been hearing quite a bit about them.so how do they work,i mean do they open up somehow to put in the tuna?or what, and do they come with extra bands?and i take it the bands hold something together?sorry about all the questions but i am really curios and somewhat anxious to try them next year.thanks D.B
95% of the time I use Starkist with Roasted Garlic in oil found at Woodman's. I change it when I can't smell it. I figure if salmon are able to smell things about 1000x better than a dog it will still be OK.
There is something about garlic that is supposed to be a strike stimulant and also found in some commercial scents.
Grey Beard
I run tuna in oil and minced garlic. Just dump the can o tuna into a leak proof container oil and all, add 2 Table spoons of garlic and throw it in the fridge for a few hours. Then after I get home I throw it in the freezer until next time, I get at least 3 trips out of one can. I have been very successful with the mini size bcbp in the wonder bread and seahawk colors. I just picked up a coulpe of the same colors as larger plugs for late season. The hooks that come with the plug are questionable at best so I change them out to single hooks and I also reline the harness with heavier floro leader material. Aprox 26 to 30 inch leaders behind a matching 8' dodger. I always run at least 2 in the spread. I try to keep them both on the same side of the boat. One on the down rigger and one on the dipsy. Make sure to refresh the tuna in the plug every 2 hours or after every fish, double check your rubber bands too, the larger fish tend to tear the bands off. ALWAY clean the plug out at the end of the trip or they get really ripe. I am a firm believer in these baits. BCBP has been a workhorse for us ! They will catch fish in the middle of the day when nothing else is working.
Keep you hook in the water !
