Depth Raider Display?
3/21/13 @ 3:55 PM
I just recived my new Depth Raider and was reading the indtructions and it says the display unit should be sheltered from the weather and out of direct rays of the sun! Now I have a 16 ft deep v tracker no roof on like the bigger boats to keep the elements off, does anyone else have a depth Raider in an open boat like mine and what do you do to protect the display? Or is it fine in the rain like a sonar unit!

Dont worry about the elements "TOO" much. On a hot day, try and cover it with a light colored towel or something if you can't shield it somehow.
I've seen them mounted underneath transom bars, clearly within the light of sun, and potentially rain as well. I've seen them mounted even right next to downriggers - on tracks, etc.
If you have a console try and tucking it under a windshield if possible. That said, I've seen even more people that have them mounted on a dash, behind their windshield. That's not really immune to heat either - in fact i think it would be worse in some cases due to magnification of the sunlight.
I don't know....i personally think it's a CYA - on a 90degree day, everything is hot. Just googled my iPhone - that's NEVER supposed to be in sunlight, and is ALWAYS supposed to be stored below 70degrees. Ooooops.
Oh...to think about the 90degree days while the ice blocks us out of the fun
