Had to make sure my facts were correct and indeed they were.   This wolf was 125 pounds and was shot at Eldorado creek which is in between Kamiah, ID and Pierce,ID very close to where I was raised.  There have been many taken of this size in this area.

I guarantee its real.  They have been taking wolves close to this size all year.  I cannot wait till January for my residency to kick in so I can go get a couple of them.  I saw my first two while driving for work at no more than 100ft off the side of the road.  The lead wolf would have been waist tall on my and I am 6'0".  I know alot of people that have gotten wolves close to this size.  I relocated from Wisconsin back to my home state of Idaho and have found out that Idaho is under seige by these.  Especially the Dworshak and Lolo hunting zones.  In Lolo they are actually going to enlist helicopters and professional trappers to kill a bunch off.  The elk numbers went from 12,000 to now only 2,000 and they have finally realized that the wolf is the main cause.  Its about time they realized this but its going to take alot of years and alot of dead wolves to bring back those animals.  The Idaho Fish and Game has made a huge mistake here as they are loosing a boat load of money on out of state tags because of this problem.  No animals no hunters.  Go figure.

TS- Almost 100% positive they were all taken in ID. Towns, I'm not sure. Could find out if it is important to you. Lots of friends out there.

I think they are at 182 on the kill as of 2 days ago.  Deer season is over so slowing down a bit. Still not enough to cover the pups from this year though.

Unless that sucker was laying dead, I'd be 15 feet behind him too.  Then again, I've heard that they are big sissies when they are caught in a trap.

Swede that is a big doggy for sure!

Really I hope it's not true. Only because that wolf should have been shot! Instead the DNR would have put a collar on it and let it go.

Good Lord, that guy has to be kneeling down 15 feet behind the wolf!  That's creative camera angles, and one that I hate to see!

WildMan,

I love the way you explain things.

Speaking of large wolves, this pic is going around right now.  Caption with it says it was found in a trap a mile from Park Falls - DNR weighed it at 138# and released it.  The guy in the background was named, but I'm not going to print it.

Just like many things. When something happens officials want to be covered up they lay blame on something else.   Just ask the parents of the 5yr old that got killed up by houghton.  It was not a wolf. It was a hybrid!   Give me a break they are all hybrids!

How about the outfitters wife not long ago that was attacked. Good thing she could shoot.

It is just a matter of time, as the numbers grow.  Nobody denies a gator will eat you. Does it happen often, no, but it does.

They have little fear of man, and loosing that fear more all the time. Dogs getting attacked in front of hunters, on the chain in back yards. You really think your child would be safe because it stands upright?

I thought I ran one off that was waitng to ambush one of my dogs this fall. Something told me to look behind me. Less than 30yds away it was standing there looking at me. Best I could do was throw rocks and charge it.  Alone it ran. Would a pack have run?

I don't buy insurance because I am going to have an accident, or my house is going to burn to the ground. I buy it because there is a remote possibility that it may happen at some point. It may never happen. But it could.

Wolves do attack humans. Have all through out history of man. To think just becasue the numbers are low, as morons have them reintroduced.  That they will not. Is just plain stupid. It is going to happen more as the numbers go up. Depredations are continuing to grow each year. I just hope that when it does happen, that it is one of those wolf lovers that is in denial of the danger they present.

Yes, deer kill people every year.  But, we are allowed to shoot the hell out of them.  People die from lots of things every year.  But things are done to control the things that cause death. There is very little being done to control the wolf populations.  In all reality the state does not want to admit how many there are. Accurate numbers means a greater chance they get delisted.  As a result thye will loose funding.  Can't understand why I have to pay taxes to support programs like this. Maybe the goverment should defer the tax dollars I have to pay over to those that want them. Bet there becomes a lot less wolf lovers real quick!

Treeshark,

The easiest explanation I can give you for the wolf/fatal mauling paradigm is this:

Wisconsin has never had a fatal mauling by a black bear.  If there has been, I've never been able to bring it up on google, etc.  Do you believe black bears are not capable of a fatal attack, or does it simply mean the right circumstances have never happened?

The gray wolf is clearly a capable predator.  It's only a matter of time for a fatal attack to occur again closer to home.

A few years ago the save the wolf crowd was crowing about there NEVER having been ANY confirmed fatal wolf attacks ever in history-so there could never be a fatal attack ever in the future.  Boy were they wrong.

That said, folks in the USA live with not only bears and wolves, but sharks, allligators, mountain lions, poisonous snakes and insects, and pit bulls.  The most dangerous vertebrate wild animal in the US?  It's the whitetail deer.
