I was able to assist researchers with the recent collection of data for deer research.

Please also read the link to Austin's article from mine earlier this week. I ask some of you to be kind. This first article is Austin's first and he is ten years old so it is rough around the edges.

My article from this week has a link to the research done to date by the dnr. #1--mortality from capturing does happen, it is a part of the game, but is less than 5%. the helicopter was mostly to blame and they eliminated that this year. #2--the fawns did very well after capture. The old theory that mothers will abandon thier offspring if a human touches it is an old wives tail. 'don't touch baby birds' was one I always heard. Birds can not smell all that well so that makes no sense and nature says that when an organism invests that much into it's offspring it will not leave them after an interaction.

Great job!

Some people on Lake-link are clueless when it comes to scientific research method.

My opinion so it's dumb? Like I said I think it's a waste of money. Also you shouldn't be anywhere near those fawns at that time in there life. I bet when the reports come in that some of died the next day we won't hear about it. It's like when the netted some with a helicopter in the dead of winter, Those deer are already stressed and then chase them around. I just don't see what this all will let us know. Killed by a car, wolf,or bear so what.

WOW........................

IMHO-What a complete waste of time and money.

Nice way to add some stress to the deer during the middle of winter. Is that data going to be included in this important study?

Why not stick that money into habitat?

Steve, prior to making a dumb comment like that, perhaps you should read up on exactly what they are doing and how they are doing it. It is the first of its kind in the nation and is on the cutting edge of deer research. None of this would have ever happened if it wasnt for the p&mers that complain about deer numbers and what is happening with it.
