snowshoes

Hey guys I would l;ike your reviews and thoughts on snowshoes. I have always had the big wooden alaskan style snowshoes until someone took them out of my truck. I bought a pair of Yukon Charlies aluminum 10 x 36 rated for 300#. I weigh about 225 and when I tried them, I sank in almost as deep as I would without them. Have any of you had experiance with this type of shoe in fairly deep snow. I'm not talking about walking oin a trail or hardpack, I,m walkingh on deep powder and want to walk over it and not through it. I'm ordering another pair of wood fron Cabellas. Our thoughts please

I have an Ojibwa pair that I really like....not from here but I got off Ebay for peanuts.
Aluminum shoes shouldn't be that loud unless the snow is already crunchy. You get what you pay for. For $220, the Tubbs Wilderness are warrantied for life, and you don't have to pay shipping for repairs either. Set the binding the first time, and that's it, snap on and off after that. Yep, they are expensive, but they are worth it. Think about it, if you have them for 20 years, then it's only a bit over $10 a year, and you will never have to pay to replace the bindings!
Well I took my new snow shoes out of the box last night for a closer look. There really isn't any space to fill with the expando foam on these. Nitemite, thanks for that tip on silencing the aluminum snow shoes, though, I haven't used them yet, but in my case too, I am not to overly concerned if their a bit noisy, I will use them mostly for shed hunting and some scouting. I won't be hunting. Only commented on the silencing because it was mentioned some notice they can be noisy.
Thanks for posting Dlama2. I just got a pair of aluminum ones from sportmans for Christmas. Haven't had a chance to try them out yet. To address some of the comment's amde on that thread where a few mentioned the aluminum ones are noisy. I am going to try filling them with the expandable foam used for weather proofing window's and door's they sell at most home repaired outlet's or in the hardware / home repair section at Fleet/farm. Shouldn't add much weight, and it does work to silience steel and aluminum gear we see for hunting etc.
