Broken Rod
5/20/12 @ 10:49 PM
Yesterday I broke my year old Fenwick HMX due to my own stupidity. The rod is a two piece and I broke the top half piece. Does anyone know if I can buy a new top piece for my rod? I don't think it is worth contacting Fenwick due to the break being caused by my stupidity, not a factory defect. Anyone have a similar experience? Any input would be greatly appreciated.
I should mention that fenwick does not sell replacement parts for their rods, says so right on their website. I have also read on other sites that fenwick does not have great customer service and is not usually willing to help out.

I'm not sure where you live, but if you are anywhere near Milwaukee, Reinkes Brothers could be a big help. I think they could match the action of your tip section even if it wasn't a Fenwick. They are located at 32nd and Greenfield and their number is 414-383-5591.
Good luck
You could repair it yourself. Find a broken rod piece just big enough to fit over the broken area. Cut a 2" section carefully and glue over the broken spot with epoxy. Seal both edges with a little more epoxy and you are good to go. You end up with a small dead spot but we never have any problems. It is best to use an old fiberglass rod for the sleeve because graphite tends to split.
