I wade almost all summer and parts of the winter can get places boats can't and do halfway decent. I don't let land owners bug me as long as your feet are in the water and when you entered it was on public land who cares let them yell...if need be take out your cell phone and report them for angler harassment....all fish in the pics where caught wading
I used to wade fish the Chippewa River below the Winter Dam that way, from the Dam or the Wannigan down to Ojibwa. Same with different spots on the Flambeau between Hwy 70 & Hwy W.
Haven't been able to do it in years, but the spots are still there. Plenty of spots to get to nice rivers like the Chip or Flambeau from the headwaters down to Lake Holcombe. Same with the upper waters of the Wisconsin.
No better way to fish smallies in many rivers. In fact I run a number of guide trips that way every year
Shore fishing and wade fishing is almost a thing of the past. Years ago landowners didn't care if someone walked down to the river or lake across their property. Now it's more likely to end in a conflict and tresspassing charges. Thanks to the mentality of the "me" generation and litterbugs. I went to the next best thing kayak fishing. Doesn't always mean I'm in the kayak when I fish. Just my 2 cents. I feel so sorry for the people when I see a crowded public shore fishing spot and think back on the days spent walking and exploring rivers and lakes.
I use my hip boots occationaly, you can walk around a lake 15 to 20 feet out, cast in front you and you are fishing in spots closer to shore that you could not get to unless you are in boat.
Only problem with wading is in spring you might be distroying spawning beds without even knowing as you walk and disturb the water.
