It used to be that one could get some insightful fishing info from this site. Now it's just Fishing Facebook. Does anybody really fish anymore, or do you just like to hear yourselves talk?

I've been a lurker for some time now but I cannot believe the blatant posts and treads where people are just flat out saying give me info and spots its just sad.

This winter Petenwell was a perfect example of a lake getting hit extra hard that people would never considered Petenwell, were now wanting to drive 3 or 4 hours to fish it, instead of their normal lakes. Common post was "Never fished this lake before. Where do I drive off of? What do I use?" Word of mouth used to take at least a week to spread and only because a friend of a friend said they were catching fish. Now with the social media, in a day people are flocking towards a hot lake. Fisherman are becoming much more concentrated on lakes that people post allot about. Never understood why someone would want to brag to the world about a lake only to find fisherman in the very spots they had good success in, especially after working all week to get back there. People have used the social media to be lazy and have information given to them instead of doing some research. Some can't even hit the back button a couple pages to get their questions answered. Common post, "Wanna fish this lake, but is it worth it, don't want to waste the gas money if it isn't." Well then you don't want to fish very bad then. I'm supposed to absorb all the expense of my hobby so I can save you money and time. If you really want to learn how to fish, there is plenty of magazines, information on the internet other than begging others, and good old fashion trail and error. At the very least maybe befriend someone online and go fishing with them and learn from each other. Once you actually learn the basics you can go to almost any body of water and know where to catch fish, even with the cheapest of electronics. Show someone where to fish he catches fish for a day, teach him to fish, he catches fish for a lifetime.

Well said Caz, have made a lot of friends over the years on here, some I have never met, some I have, some I am looking forward to meeting some day, some I hope I never meet. I will try to help anyone, but not in the general forum.

Exactly as others said. Even if you don't give much info at all in a report people see the lake name in the reports and decide "hey lets go there". If I do post I usually use the Southeast WI Lakes and rivers thread. I wish others would do so as well for some of the lakes around me. A lot of lakes under 100 acres that just get pounded.

"Now most who have developed a network of LL'ers basically just use this site to keep in touch and shoot the bull" That's how I use this site for the most part. I have a network and I try to contribute as much as has been given to me. There are a few people who I'll never get to repay for their generosity and those who I know I've helped out as well. I will post on the general boards about water temps, general fishing information and reports and what they're biting on. I will rarely post about a specific body of water with the exception of larger lakes and flowages. I rarely post pics if you can see landmarks in the background. I will never post about the lake that our place is on though a few in my network know. I've seen it get raped when one other person posted specifics on it. Next thing you know, 12 trucks and trailers in the parking area where there's normally 1 or 2.

It used to be that people would SHARE insightful information on this site. Now there are hundreds of leeches just looking for the free handouts, the where, when, and how. Rarely, if ever do they reciprocate. And you are wondering why many of the long-time users are tight lipped when it comes to reports? Because we have seen what this site has done to too many fishing spots over the years. Now most who have developed a network of LL'ers basically just use this site to keep in touch and shoot the bull.
